Wonderful obituary that serves as a moving tribute to Bruce Lunsford. We mostly knew him as an owner-breeder but he was many things to many people. He also at one time served on @ChurchillDowns board of directors. It was unfortunate that his homebred Blue Grass winner Art Collector missed the Covid-delayed #KyDerby. With this win (38-1 Ms. Jay Dee Em) in 6th, Mike Maker won his 3rd win on day to take 9-8 lead over Wesley Ward for trainer's title - plus it was his 99th career victory at @KyDownsRacing. He's in five more races.

We tend to take it for granted that Louisville-based Mike Maker is going to win a bunch of races at @KyDownsRacing. But to win 100 races between 2005 and 2026 - that's about 5 wins a meet, which that alone would have been enough to take the training title a lot of years. Mike's 10 wins this meet (including 4 today) are surpassed only by his 12 in 2022. But the best part of Mike's latest title is hearing how 13yo son Caden convinced his dad to let him come to #KyDowns today instead of school. Not all learning is in the classroom!
