Wild how the police *every step of the way* just want to keep destroying communities instead of building them up
@CouncilmemberJG this is one of your constituents.
Philly was the city of neighborhoods at one point. Not anymore apparently.
@billy_penn
The @PPDCommish needs to talk to it's captains about denying block party permits. A block that has low crime just had their Halloween block party denied because they didn't close down their last party at exactly 8pm. No warning, no talking to the block captain. Just a NO.
This kind of thing just divides community. This block regularly gives out *hundreds* of hot dogs to trick or treaters, helping community parents out and making Halloween a little safer and more enjoyable.
@MegArenberg@suchitrav@michaelkbusch@RobesonHousePHL Since she herself, while a good scholar and writer, isn't Native we found that there was an understanding missing from her writing. Settlers talking about indigenous sovereignty is like trying to form words without a tongue.
Thanks for having us! It was fun and thought provoking
There is a growing push to build more market rate housing under the promise that with enough supply, rents will stabilize.
The premise is that landlords will ask for lower prices rather than let the units stay empty.
However, landlords do in fact just let them stay empty.
THIS THURSDAY! Come hang, wine down, and take part in our first time hosting @warscapes Transformative Futures Reading Series w/ special org guests @NativesinPhilly! ❤️ masks w/ proof of vaccination required for indoor entry. 🙏🏾
@moisturizednerd My 18 yo just said they'd probably be back home in a couple of years after they had a chance to "do it all on their own". I can't imagine kicking my kids out and slamming the door.
Just hit me that the @CDCgov giving up on #COVID19 means they don't have to do anything to keep kids safe in schools like pay for tests for teachers or masks or air filters. They will just be following guidelines and allowing kids to be exposed.
This is exhausting.
What if “learning to live with COVID” meant learning to live with basic precautions like masks and enhanced air handling rather than living with repeated infections until your long-term health is threatened?
@RealJabariJones @ellisonreport Why does it have to be either/or? Maybe there are plenty of poor folks in Philly worried about eating tonight AND eating in the future? As food scarcity hits it's going to hit poor people first and hardest.
If the rumors are true, and half of @PHLCouncil steps down to run for mayor, the next Council should finally have a Charter Convention and clean it up.
