New paper alert: Revised Network Loadings, by Christensen, Golino, Abad, and Garrido (2024). We've significantly improved our network loadings. If you're interested in network psychometrics and exploratory graph analysis, give it a read!
@ent3c @eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity Twitter’s a hard place for people who care a lot to discuss anything. I hope folks on this thread can do something nice for themselves this evening if the discussion I helped start went places that frustrated and angered them
@ent3c @eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity I know you’re passionate about this topic and helping your patients, Eric. For what’s it worth, our discussions on this topic have done a lot to shape how I think about it
@eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity @ent3c Before people roast me for being inarticulate or unconvincing, I’ll come out and say this is not the area of philosophy in our field I am most familiar with. I’m more immersed in discussions or biological reductionism and the implications of quantitative modeling
@eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity @ent3c And it boils my blood to know that someone didn’t come into the office or clinic because someone I would call a charlatan performed a poor fidelity version of exposures with them, and now they believe nothing can help them
@eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity @ent3c I hear you, and what you experienced sounds exhausting. It makes me think of the strength it takes for our patients to put their trust in us after experiencing months or years of a poor version of our specialized treatments. I’ve certainly experienced that
@eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity @ent3c I’ll be clear in case it’s not coming across, I’m not suggesting that a good insight-oriented therapist could have provided what you needed. I believe you knew your goals, and that people provided care that did not help you meet them.
Sorry… I missed a “not” the first time!
@eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity @ent3c This is where I think being honest about what we do, and who we can best serve us critical. Someone whose life would genuinely improve from insight-oriented therapy is as poorly served by the terrible version of it I could provide, as an OCD sufferer getting bad ERP
@eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity @ent3c I’d like to think if I didn’t, I would not call what I do CBT (usually ERP or PE in my case), because I think the experience you described is unacceptable. And I genuinely wish you didn’t have to go through being misled and wasting your time and energy
@eisenlohr_moul@dp_moriarity @ent3c I’m not an insight-oriented or systems therapist, so I couldn’t comment on their process. My understanding is that if a person is free styling, they’re doing that work poorly. I’m a CBT-trained practitioner, so my work is manualized.
