Free agent 7-footer Branden Carlson has agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal to sign with the Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell ESPN. Portland picks up a big man who has developed in the OKC Thunder system over the last two seasons, finalizing a deal with @PrioritySports' Ross Aroyo and Mark Bartelstein.
Nice comeback win from the Liberty tonight — big time minutes for Jaylyn Sherrod tonight! It won’t show up on the stat sheet but she made some big plays on defense to help spark the comeback.
@esidery Really I think it boils down to Beal. Picking up a NTC, a massive albatross of a contract, and losing all that capital for a star far past his prime was sadly always bound to fail.
@fanspo It’ll probably be Draymond or Mobley but people are really sleeping on how impactful Dyson Daniels has been with forcing turnovers this season.
I don’t know whether the Adelsons are truly gutting a beloved NBA franchise for political & financial gain, but the moves made by Dallas point in no clear direction — moves that are not win now or win later. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best.

For the next few months (and years) you’re going to hear a lot about how Nico Harrison gutted the Mavs & Dallas Basketball culture but that misses the point. Decisions like the Luka trade come only from the top down. The new ownership group in Dallas are the ones who did this.
Starting at 27:40 @PabloTorre discusses the Adelson’s interests in legalizing gambling within the state. There’s already been a lot of chatter on this site re: the Luka trade being pretext for strong arming Texans into either legalizing gambling or moving the Mavs to Vegas.
@LegionHoops@ShamsCharania If the reports out of Chicago are correct, Coby White could be an incredible get for his current salary + production levels. The Lakers could really use a starting-caliber guard
@TrellInterlude Are we still sure Flagg will go first?
Also, depending on his workouts, I could see Boogie Fland going in the first — maybe not anymore given his recent injury, though.
@espn_macmahon@ShamsCharania Tough loss for the Mavs. Expect Gafford to get a huge uptick in playing time — great pickup for any fantasy basketball players out there.
I think this is mostly right but I think it’s worth noting that the NBA seems to be pretty intentional about protecting the brand of their more established teams.
They seek new, exciting branding opportunities for less popular teams (a la the Magic’s orange) but they rarely drastically change the stalwarts like Boston, LAL, or Chicago in their branding. I see this as something that arises in all pro sports — NY Rangers have had largely the same branding forever but less popular NHL teams have been breaking out chrome helmets, retro color schemes, and alternate uniforms.
Lastly think it should be noted that the oversaturation of jersey colors & combinations has existed in European soccer for a while now. And while I’m not particularly a fan of european soccer, fans do collect each of their favorite clubs alternate/special jerseys that are released each season. I think that’s more what they’re chasing for better or for worse…
