At the beginning of free agency, the reported asking price for Kuzma was $30 million per year.
The Wizards just signed him for $25.5 mil per year over 4 yrs, locking him up for the future.
He’s only 27, averaged 21 ppg last season, and is still getting better. Love this deal!
Free agent F Kyle Kuzma has agreed on a four-year, $102M deal to return to the Washington Wizards, co-head of @CAA_Basketball Austin Brown tells ESPN. Kuzma took a shorter deal with Lakers three years ago — and now cashes in after a career-year with Wizards.
Wiz now have 9 players 24 or under on the roster. Gafford, Kispert, Poole, Davis, Deni, Baldwin Jr, Rollins, Vukcevic and Bilal. Dawkins turned over an older vet roster overnight. #lethimcook 🙌🏾
So Beal picking Phoenix ended up netting the Wizards Jordan Poole
Getting the Chris Paul expiring was massive and I doubt the Wizards get Poole using assets from the Miami package
Phenomenal job by Winger working with the hand that Beal dealt him
@fastbreconomics While that’s true, this more relates to Ted wanting an outside hire to avoid being a middle of the pack team. And it’s a lot easier to fall into the middle of the pack by trying to push for the playoffs by running it back with Beal
@toney_no1_fan They have more space if Grant finds a new team in free agency, they also have other salary filler options. Also could go the luxury tax route but that’s unlikely
The consistent report of “If the team elects to reset the roster” is strategic by Winger
Gives him bargaining power back in Beal’s trade negotiations because if teams don’t offer enough for Beal, Wingers willingness to not reset (which is a bluff) could move teams to offer more
@Jgreen6293@MikeDSykes 1) you can’t trust this team to draft two studs at 7&9 with Tommy’s draft track record
2) you take a “Wall 2.0” 100 times out of 100
Scoot is the #1 overall pick in any other draft but this one
@jansjay If they are able to keep Kuz and KP they’ll basically be running it back next year at higher $ while adding another FRP and a couple second rounders
Finally hitting on a FRP and developing young players is their biggest task and there’s not a ton of hope considering our history
@DCStones1978@WillCIayton Who gives him zero credit for Deathrow DC? 9 out of 10 wizards fans will tell you that was their favorite era
Now you’re just saying anything
@DCStones1978@WillCIayton Wizards fans wanted Ernie fired in those years because he traded the 5th pick for Randy Foye and Mike Miller in a draft where Steph Curry went 7th lol
Should’ve been arrested for that trade
@DCStones1978@WillCIayton Yes, and who cares if fans are or aren’t. You do what it takes to build a team that can compete for a championship down the line
Those rough years led to several years of being competitive, because we got young talent that gave the team a direction - which is all we ask for
