On Friday 22nd May, 2026, we joined our colleagues at the NBA-YLF Ikeja Branch Summit 2026 themed: “The Future-Ready Lawyer: Tech, Trends, Challenges & Career Breakthroughs.”

It was an insightful and forward-looking gathering that reflected the realities of modern legal practice and the urgent need for young lawyers to position themselves for the future.

During the summit, I had the privilege of presenting a goodwill message on behalf of the National Governing Council of the NBA Young Lawyers Forum @NBAYLFOfficial. In our remarks, we commended the leadership of the NBA branch for their commitment to the growth and welfare of young lawyers, particularly for designating a portion of their Bar Centre as a co-working space for young lawyers.

This initiative strongly aligns with our advocacy across branches for practical support systems that provide young lawyers, especially those without employment opportunities, with a professional space to work, collaborate, and remain connected to the profession.

We also used the opportunity to encourage senior members of the branch to support the initiative by donating facilities and resources necessary for the effective running and sustainability of the space.

We particularly commend the leadership of the Branch, led by my dear friend and brother, Prayer Oko, for putting together such a timely and impactful summit. The quality of conversations and the electrifying presentations by the panelists truly reflected the essence of the theme and reinforced the importance of preparing young lawyers for the rapidly evolving legal landscape.

Moments like this remind us that the future of the profession belongs to lawyers who are willing to learn, adapt, innovate, and collaborate.

One of the most significant resolutions presented to NEC was the Forum’s position on the proposed pupilage system under the Legal Practitioners Bill. The Summit resolved that pupilage must never become a vehicle for exploitation within

A major focus of the presentation was the formal submission of the Communiqué issued at the conclusion of the NBA-YLF National Summit 2026, a landmark gathering which marked twenty years of the NBA Young Lawyers Forum as the leading platform for the
