From yesterday’s Summer Scouting Series
NaVorro Bowman Jr. made his debut in the national top ten this summer when it became clear he was in the midst of a major ascension - as a playmaker, shot-maker, and defender. https://t.co/tvxVQoyJ1K
From a scouting perspective, NaVorro Bowman was an instinctive, explosive and highly productive linebacker whose play speed, pursuit ability, toughness and short-area quickness made him one of the most disruptive second-level defenders in college football
At @PennStateFball, Bowman led the team with 106 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks in 2008, then followed with 93 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 3 sacks in 2009 despite missing time with injury. He earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors in both seasons and established himself as one of the top linebackers in the country
Bowman’s best traits were his instincts, acceleration, lateral range, pursuit angles and tackling ability. He diagnosed blocking schemes quickly, triggered downhill with little hesitation and had the burst to close space before runners could fully develop. He was also effective scraping over the top, shooting gaps and chasing plays from the backside
What stood out most was that Bowman consistently played faster than his timed speed suggested. His anticipation, processing speed and short-area quickness allowed him to beat blockers to landmarks and consistently find the football. His biggest concern was handling larger blockers when they were able to square him up, making his ability to stay clean with quickness, leverage and angles especially important.
2010 Pre Draft Measurements & Times:
Height: 6’0½”
Weight: 242 lbs.
Arm Length: 33”
Hand Size: 9⅞”
40-Yard Dash: 4.62
Bench Press: 26 reps
Vertical: 35½”
Broad Jump: 9’9”
Short Shuttle: 4.20
3-Cone: 6.70
The @49ers selected Bowman 91st overall in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, and his Penn State traits translated exceptionally well. His instincts, range, tackling ability and play speed became defining parts of San Francisco’s defense, helping him develop into a four-time First-Team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler
Bowman is a great example of why play speed matters more than timed speed. His ability to process quickly, anticipate, close space and consistently find the football allowed him to play at an elite level in the NFL
Feel like it'll be a perfect marriage between UConn & 5⭐️ G NaVorro Bowman Jr.
Lead guard w/ sound positional size, killer mentality & a true two-way presence. He's the type of guy who applies pressure whenever he has the ball or if he's heating it up defensively.
One aspect of his game that I'll be interested in seeing unfold is his processing as a playmaker in Dan Hurley's offense. The amount of reads/options the guards have to go through in the half court will only add value to Bowman as a prospect at the highest of levels if he thrives.

Donte Whitner, NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis give their takes on the 49ers latest acquisitions
Bowman on Greenlaw:
“I think early on it’ll be a great thing. To get everyone hyped. The morale of the team hyped, but we all know it comes down to doing it. Dre’s had some health concerns. Then we got Fred Warner coming back off of injury. But the men that I know, I know they really are coming back with vengeance.”
Donte on Kirk:
“ I know a lot of people don’t like him. I think this is actually going to be one of their best free agent pickups this offseason.”

A takeaway from last night's Chargers defensive performance-- their linebackers fly all over the field. They were everywhere.
The unit's coach? NaVorro Bowman. Harbaugh hired the four-time All-Pro as LB Coach in 2024 and the unit has absolutely flourished under his tutelage.
