Remember the Cuba matter with the Department of Arts and Culture denying me off my opportunity? My work was translated in Cuba in a tribute to Ntate Keorapetse Kgositsile. I was chosen alongside SA icon Antjie Krog.

The head of department of Arts and Culture refused to bring back my copies of the book because of ego reasons and the deep antagonism I get from the department.

When I send messages to the minister spokesperson she ignores them.

I just want the copies of my work guys. It’s not fair and it’s so cruel what they are doing.

We grew up knowing about these things.
Mvelincanti was at the level of the creator of all things. Mlentengamunye would be sent to communicate with us earthly beings.

African spirituality was never corporate but personal. The belief that “umlomo uyadala” or you create with your tongue tells you all you need to know.

They understood that creative power resides within you not outside.
Growing up this was what we were taught and it was emphasized. When you happened to say something negative, you would literally try and reverse it by speaking out and say “Phi, magama ami buyela emuva”. That’s to mean I hear-bye reverse the words I have just uttered . That’s knowledge of the power of the tongue because ultimately YOU are the creator or if you like, the creator lives or manifested itself IN you. It’s a creator who creates. 🤷🏾‍♂️

That is how I understand our spirituality. It also appears to tie up with the biblical statement by Jesus who confirmed that “Yea are gods….”l He said this after the religious jewish elite tried to stone him for suggesting that he was equal to GOD.

As I also see it, this creative power was exercised officially by the head of the home occasionally by speaking while in cattle kraal. This would be in times of trouble or when landmark decisions had to be made for his family.
