Still to this day, my favorite 9/11 movie ever made, with some of the most jaw-dropping endings I've ever seen in a movie. Whatever your thoughts on the subject matter, you can't deny that United 93 (2006) is a masterful piece of filmmaking. 25 years since the attack happened and 20 years since the movie came out, this scene still hurts like the first time I saw it. If you have not seen it, please do, at least once in your lifetime. It's a difficult watch, but it's one that I believe deserves to be seen and remembered.
Paul Greengrass had some insane balls for pulling this off. Rest In Peace to the heroes on this flight who fought back and chose to sacrifice themselves when they had the chance to save more lives on the ground 🙏💔 🥀
“I’ll take the cockpit.”
“I’ll take the tail.”
On September 11 2001, two F-16 pilots took off from Andrews Air Force Base knowing their mission could end with them deliberately crashing their own fighters into a hijacked passenger jet.
Lt. Col. Marc Sasseville and 1st Lt. Heather “Lucky” Penney were scrambled as the attacks unfolded and United Airlines Flight 93 was believed to be heading toward Washington. There was one enormous problem: their F-16s had no live missiles aboard. There simply wasn’t time to arm them before launching.
So the two pilots devised an extraordinary last-resort plan.
Sasseville would ram Flight 93’s cockpit. Penney would strike the tail, destroying the aircraft’s ability to remain airborne.
“I’m going to go for the cockpit,” Sasseville told her.
“I’ll take the tail,” Penney replied.
Both understood what that could mean. Penney later described it as potentially a one-way mission.
They raced toward Washington and searched for the missing airliner, unaware that the passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 had already fought back against the hijackers. The Boeing 757 had crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, before the fighters were airborne.
Penney would later insist that the real heroes that morning were the people aboard Flight 93.
They had done what the two fighter pilots were preparing to sacrifice their own lives to do: stop the aircraft from reaching Washington.

More than 300 dogs helped search for survivors on 9/11. In fact, the last person rescued at ground zero was found by a search and rescue dog.
The search was mentally and physically taxing on the dogs, who walked across huge piles of debris and smoldering rubble. As the days went by, dogs became sad when they were no longer finding people alive. So, to keep their spirits up, their handlers staged mock rescues. They would have people hide under debris for dogs to find. This boosted the dogs’ morale as they continued their work.
In addition to rescue dogs, therapy dogs were brought to the scene to provide comfort to emotionally drained and traumatized police officers and firefighters.
Dogs are the best thing in the world and we do not deserve them.

NEW: A baby duck has now died at the reflecting pool.
This image was shared with me in the past hour by someone who visited the reflecting pool. It is unclear what the cause of death is.
