In the late 1800s, an adventurous pharmacist set out to brave the harsh winters armed with a special weapon… fermented fish livers. AKA cod liver oil, this health elixir, though nutrient-packed, comes with a foul taste that is difficult to swallow, figuratively and literally.
Yum. Dose of milky fish syrup, anyone? We think it might take more than a spoonful of sugar to help that medicine go down. Thankfully, Scott’s Emulsion still exists today, but with a variety of new, fruity flavorings that truly do help this nutrient powerhouse go down easy.

At NCPDP headquarters we have a number of antique medications and medical devices on display, on loan from @UAZPharmacy. Check out this featured item: Hadacol, marketed as a vitamin supplement in the 1940s and 50s.
The tonic's creator, Dudley J. LeBlanc, made a fortune selling his creation whose name name was short for "Happy Day Company" with a L for LeBlanc. When asked about the name, however, he would joke "Well, I hadda' call it something."
Some products simply sell themselves!
