After 4 years, the Affordable Housing Record is simply horrendous. The model is irredeemably flawed and needs urgent restructuring:
1. The campaign PROMISE upon which the program was sold was 250k houses per year. That would be 1m houses in 4 years today.
2. But, we have COMPLETED only 10k houses, that’s a 1% achievement of the 1m promise.
3. Of the 10k completed houses, 8k are occupied, 2k remain vacant. And the occupants are largely UNKNOWN to the public.
3. OWNERSHIP TITLES DELIVERED, to my knowledge is zero, so the 8k unknown occupants can’t even mortgage their homes or show any title.
4. And this is after COLLECTING Ksh 205 BILLION in housing levy taxes.
5. Taxation is from 3 m salaried hard working employees.
So, the record in SUMMARY:
In 4 years, we have achieved 1% of our campaign promise, pissed off 3 million people, reducing disposable incomes by 200 billion, and housed 8 thousand Kenyans, who don’t even have title?
That’s the record, there is no running away from it, and it’s simply bizarre.
This can’t be about housing, it’s about something else.
FarmWorks, the largest distributor of fresh vegetables in Kenya, is in the market looking to raise around Sh650m for business expansion.
The company generated revenues of Sh650m with about 90% of its sales being local.
Ruto seems to think that the protests were about the Finance Bill. This is a shockingly simplistic view of the issue. The Bill was just a trigger. There is a lot of pent-up anger due to the poor state of the economy.
