going on subway takes and saying that
nyc transplants love rooftops because it lets them feel above native New Yorkers. Thousands of the dumbest people alive clap like seals. others call for my death. This is a necessary and helpful part of my press tour to sell a book.
It blows my mind that liberal supporters of Israel still just write this stuff off like "yeah those guys are terrorists" and "I don't support that" and "most Israelis don't support this" when it's stuff you simply cannot do without the state tacitly allowing it.
@barakgila I agree that there’s plenty of suitable land in the US that’s not forest or “natural” wild grassland.
But I have seen how both conservative and liberal politicians from Michigan have had no interest in regulation (the democratic state house voted to “recommend” green energy use
This is the same ideology driving the growth of data centers: so what if your hometown becomes a business park you can’t afford, just shut up and take the money!
That’s not good politics, just saying
this is a profoundly misguided worldview that reminds me of when Cupertino city council asked Steve Jobs what the city would get out of the new Apple spaceship HQ
@barakgila Not to mention, the expansion of big tech as a reactionary political entity, an extractive force in the global economy and many townships essentially removing flood zones or natural space to make room for construction sites that would be empty should there be a bubble burst
@barakgila I think it can potentially be an good deal, if the company actually follows through with the money, jobs and environmental protections, which given how many of those are encouraged practices and not contractual obligations, I get the skepticism behind moratoriums
We have to have PE firms buy up our hospitals because M4A is too expensive and the hospitals need equity. We have to let ICE build the detention center, we have to let ai companies build data centers and pollute your communities
It’s AWFUL politics, even aside from its morality
There are so many people in this country worried about what the future of humanity generally looks like.
Under no circumstances should your political message to those people be something along the lines of: sorry a company has to build this thing that will make your life worse!
Seriously, from our healthcare, to our housing every single answer from everyone on the political spectrum (even Zohran to an extent) is some form of “we have to let this company do this to you, or else”
When I read that the Saline data center will use 20-30,000 gallons of water a day, I think of the Ford Model T plant in Highland Park that convinced the city to build it a water supply so the factory could use 30,000,000 gallons a day for its turbines. Ford moved not long after.
