I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of John Prescott.
John was a true giant of the Labour movement.
On behalf of the Labour Party, I send my condolences to Pauline and his family, to the city of Hull, and to all those who knew and loved him.
May he rest in peace.
Today I attended the first major animal protection event of the new Parliament. I spoke with representatives from the UK's leading animal charities to hear from experts about the issues affecting animals in the UK and around the world. I will champion animal protection in Parliament.
Great to hear that Chester-le-Street will soon see an increase in rail services. From Dec 2024, the station will be served hourly in both directions. The lack of train services in Chester-le-Street has been impacting my constituents for many years, so this is a positive development for Chester-le-Street and the wider area.
NHS dentistry in North Durham is dying under the Conservatives - but it doesn’t have to be this way. Labour has a fully funded plan to restore NHS dentistry for all who need it - paid for by abolishing the non-dom tax status for the super rich.

Interesting to hear Richard Holden MP claiming he is “Bloody loyal to the North East” when he recently failed to get selected as the conservative candidate for Bridlington and the Wolds constituency in East Yorkshire.

Good meeting with Fire Brigades Union North East reps ahead of the Budget. Since 2010, the fire and rescue service has seen central government funding cut by 40%. The Chancellor should reverse these cuts and arm firefighters with the resources that they need to do their jobs.
Pleased to Join @LizTwistMP @MPphilwilson @IanMearnsMP & @HelenGoodmanMP to support @DeLaRuePlc workers from Gateshead site against Govt to decision to export UK Passport jobs.
