If Holly (Ilex aquifolium) finds its leaves are being nibbled by deer, it switches genes on to make them spiky when they regrow. So on taller Holly trees, the upper leaves (which are out of reach) have smooth edges, while the lower leaves are prickly 🤙

"Books mean all possibilities. They mean moving out of yourself, losing yourself, dying of thirst and living to your full. They mean everything."

'January was a two-faced month, jangling like jester's bells, crackling like snow crust, pure as any beginning, grim as an old man, mysteriously familiar yet unknown, like a word one can almost but not quite define.'

@hikesperthshire @PerthLS @wraldpyk @RojH123 Hi, it’s nice to meet you both! We would love to talk/meet and help in whatever way we can. I have had many frustrations about the way things are in Perth, especially the car focused culture. I think we share a lot of core values and visions for what Perth could be like.
@PerthLS @Perth_Greens@wraldpyk@PerthandKinross And the amount of cars 24/7 in this small city is insane. Improved infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists is highly needed, so you have our full support. Hope everyone will be able to enjoy a safe and active environment like we are used to in the Netherlands one day.
@PerthLS @Perth_Greens@wraldpyk@PerthandKinross Yeah, it's such a shame. I can see many different solutions to a lot of traffic problems Perth is having but without will and support from council members and the government, it will not be changing anytime soon. You're doing great though by addressing all these problems!
@PerthLS @Perth_Greens@wraldpyk@PerthandKinross If the average speed limit would be lower, it's much safer to implement crosswalks. As crosswalks are pretty rare in the area of Perth I think drivers rather tend to ignore them. There should be more crosswalks across Perth and active campaigning to respect the rules by PKC.
@PerthLS @Perth_Greens@wraldpyk@PerthandKinross I think the much higher speed limits have something to do with this being the law. @wraldpyk and I have relocated to Scotland last year from the Netherlands and we are actually shocked by the terrible traffic conditions a city like Perth has.
