It’s baffling to me how little people understand about Trump’s proposed tariffs.
Let me explain using VALORANT terms:
Imagine Riot made the Arcane 2.0 bundle exclusive to China. With the tariff applied, in order for an NA player to buy that skin from China, they have to pay an additional fee to import that skin into NA.
Many people have this misconception that Riot (the Chinese manufacturer) will pay the tariff for the Arcane 2.0 skin into order for them to get more sales in NA, but why would they?
China’s market is huge domestically, they don’t really NEED the NA market, so the NA players themselves have to pay that additional 1000VP for the skin.
Trump’s tariffs operate the same way, as he’s trying to get Americans to buy more American “skins”.
However, one must realize that it is far cheaper to outsource and design skins in China compared to the US, therefore the tariffs will only increase costs here due to increased cost of labor.
All in all, Arcane 2.0 is a great skin but something that I wouldn’t want to pay more for. The same with oil, gas, electrical equipment, and more.
