Friday in Dahlonega is the one. Stephens County comes to Lumpkin County at 7:30 for a Region 8-AAA game. Indians from Toccoa are 4-2 and riding a four-game streak after the 44-28 upset of Hart. Lumpkin is 4-1, with the 50-14 loss to Hart still the only blemish in the region.
PLAYERS TO WATCH Lumpkin County vs. Stephens County | Friday, 7:30 p.m. | Dahlonega
Branson Stowe, QB, Stephens County — Junior threw six touchdowns and an unofficial 391 yards in the 42-14 win at Franklin. Four of those scores went to Duke Collins. Hart couldn’t slow him down either.
Duke Collins, WR/CB, Stephens County — Go-to target. Four touchdown catches against Franklin, plus a pick. If Stowe has time, Collins is the first look.
Dallas Hague, RB, Stephens County — Early-season rush leader, sharing the load with senior Jasiah Wiley. Stephens has been balanced. Both backs have to stay involved if Lumpkin loads the box.
Kolson Howell, QB, Lumpkin County — Moved under center this year and has been the Indians’ most productive runner in the games that have been logged. Lumpkin’s offense runs through him.
Martin Hulsey and Mac Powell, WR, Lumpkin County — The two names Lumpkin wants the ball in. Hulsey was the early receiving leader. If Howell gets them isolated, this stays a shootout.
Weston Veater, RB/LB, Lumpkin County — Plays both ways. Bell-cow back in the preseason plan, and one of the veterans on a young defense. Stephens just put 44 on Hart. Veater’s side has to answer.
Mountain region game. Stephens has the hotter hand. Lumpkin has the field.

GAME OF THE WEEK @SCFBrecruits at @LumpkinFB Friday, Oct. 9 · 7:30 p.m. · Lumpkin County
Indian vs. Indian. Region 8-AAA. One of them leaves Dahlonega with the better grip on the region race.
@SCFBrecruits (4-2, 2-0 region) is the story of Northeast Georgia right now. Four straight wins, and last Friday they pulled off the upset of the year: a 44-28 rally over No. 2 Hart County after trailing 22-0 in the second quarter. Branson Stowe found Kaiden Harbin, Macade Huff, and Duke Collins (scores from 76 and 38), Collins added a pick-6, and Isaiah Arthur sealed it with a pick-6 on the final play. Coach Thomas Flowers’ group already beat Franklin County 42-14. They are not sneaking up on anybody anymore.
@LumpkinFB (4-1, 0-1 region) had the bye and should be fresh. Heath Webb’s Indians opened hot — Dawson 42-31, Pickens 42-28, White County 27-0, East Forsyth 42-35 — then ran into the same Hart County team Stephens just beat, falling 50-14 on the road. Home field in Dahlonega is the reset button. Region play is 0-1, so this one is not optional.
Both wear Indians. Only one walks out of Region 8 looking like the team to beat.
