@yyzsportsmedia I imagine that this can be explained away to a degree. However, combined with the underwhelming numbers for the Olympic Gold medal game and ongoing sour taste with Hockey Canada some eyebrows should be raised.
@Adamkblat@Michael_Traikos So Canadian players flock over the border to the US and American players head the other way to Canada.
The whole thing is insane.
@WitterSR@liltaterhockey "Pressure" of being a hockey player in Canada just seems so overblown.
Maybe not an issue in the future. As revenues & salaries keep rising, the value of our $ declines, hard to see how all but 3 of our markets can survive.
We've already served up junior to the altar of NCAA.
@WitterSR@liltaterhockey The attention a hockey player receives playing in a Canadian market is THAT different from an American basketball, baseball, or football player receives playing in the states ? This is soft.
A 4th liner in Vancouver being MOBBED at grocery stores sounds like wishful thinking.
@yyzsportsmedia Part of the issue seems to be at the producer level.
On any 🇨🇦 network, no standard for how to call a game.
Game call is treated like a podcast with the game interrupting their pontificating (Gord Miller).
All PXP talent have devolved into screamers, Mudryk, Michaels.
@WitterSR@libaanstar1@william_lou@OrenWeisfeld There's a long history of our hockey players not showing up. Mario (multiple) Bourque, MacInnis, Roy. They got shrugs bc always assumed we would win anyways.
Some have switched to play for the US, T. Esposito, Trottier.
B4 1998 we couldn't draw flies to play for our Oly team.
@TheDraftAnalyst Has the world caught up ? I feel we have regressed a lot !
Cupboard of large mobile wingers, large mobile defenders, and big skilled 2 way centers is LOW.
Goaltending depth is tragic.
We no longer can impose a size, physical imprint in games, tournaments.
@dotNectar Think it has more to do with the NCAA becoming out in the open pro leagues partially subsidized, directly & indirectly, with US taxpayer $. NHL teams also hold onto an NCAA player rights for an extra 2 years compared to CHL.
The deck is stacked against the small biz junior teams.
@Jay_D_Rosehill If you get a job as a manager at a company and the following week a senior person from the same industry becomes available is it ok for your company to laterally move you so they can bring in this person for the job you were just given?
@wyshynski Old style Euro goal cages used to have a netting fly sheet drop down from the inside of the crossbar. Cool visual that helped provide the instant gratification of a goal.
@Sz1909_Szemberg Unfortunately, this is symbolic of our country right now. Another assistant coach, Spencer Carberry, while on ESPN last week responds to the American host commenting that as a Canadian he is competing for 2nd next week, with a beaten "I'm dual".
No pride in our country, very sad
@JShannonhl@CHLHockey What a disservice to many CHL alumni. This list is weighted heavily on NHL accomplishments.
Excluding players like :
Rob Brown
Greg Hawgood
Guy Rouleau
Dale Derkatch
Dale McCourt
Real Cloutier
To name a few. I guess a proper list wouldn't receive as many clicks.
@Hebsyman@hockeynight Perhaps being up high and being able to see the entire ice and where all the chess pieces are is more conducive to proper assessment and analysis.
Only advantage to being between the benches is to overhear player/coach dialogue which they are likely banned from passing along.
@TheDraftAnalyst Last 3 years 46 CHL 1st round picks compared to 23 NCAA. Through 3 rounds 115-71 for CHL.
Gap would widen if in coming years Hockey Canada & 🇨🇦 govt take necessary measures to even playing field as small biz CHL operators compete vs the indirectly & direct 🇺🇸 govt funded NCAA.
@TopTierPucks Looking forward to see how he makes out at the Worlds without McDavid and Draisaitl riding shotgun.
This tournament has become watered down over the years, but would be great for him to make a banger of a statement. Also curious how he handles the bigger ice.
