Mr. Hoying is entering his 22nd year of teaching but first in GA. He comes to us from the far north (Michigan). He is the father of two kids, Ardelia and Paul. Hoying has sung in 39 out of 50 states. In addition to singing, he can play 15 different instruments. #WeAreVR #24Strong

Dr. J. Scott Smith has been the choral Director at Central Middle School since 2011. He earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University and both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music Education from JSU. #LionStrong #24Strong

Ms. Barlow has been the chorus & general music teacher at Temple Middle School since 2003. Her teaching career began in Mobile, AL in 1992. Ms. Barlow has taught music and chorus at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Alabama and Georgia. #TigerPride #24Strong

Ms. Ruthie Phillips began her teaching career at @Central_Lions in 2017. Since assuming the role of Choral Director, she has built a thriving choral program, consisting of five choral ensembles. This summer, several members of the Central Chorus were featured at Carnegie Hall.

Valyncia Hurd is the current choir director of @VillaRicaHigh. She has been directing the choirs of Villa Rica High School since the fall of 2019. Mrs. Hurd is a graduate from the University of West Georgia and is currently in her 7th year of teaching. #WeAreVR #24Strong

Ms. Lydia Clarke is the choir director at Bowdon, Mt Zion, and Temple High Schools. Ms. Clarke is a summa cum laude graduate with a BA in Music Education from JSU. She is an Alabama native and is excited to be teaching in Carroll County. #24Strong

Ann Wilson is the new Associate Director of Bands at @VillaRicaHigh and a recent graduate of @UnivWestGa Ms. Wilson teaches low brass players throughout the state, drum majors at various high schools, and assists composer Katahj Copley as a program annotator. #WeAreVR #24Strong

Riley Mitchell graduated from @Central_Lions in 2018, and is a 2022 graduate of @UnivWestGa. She has been involved with the Central band as a staff member for the past 4 years. Mitchell teaches trumpet to MS and HS students and is excited for her first year as a band director.

Mr. Terry Shores has been teaching band since 1993: 21 years in Dekalb, 6 years in Rockdale, and is in his 3rd year with Carroll Co. as the band director at @VillaRicaMiddle. Mr. Shores performs around GA, playing trombone, euphonium, trumpet, and percussion. #WeAreVR #24Strong

Patti Martin is a native of Sarasota, Florida but has called Carroll County home for twenty-three years. Ms. Martin is the band director at @templemiddle. This is her twenty-first year as the leader of the TMS bands. #TigerPride #24Strong

Cynthia Videtto is the band director and guitar teacher for @BowdonMiddle. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where her primary instrument was clarinet, and she is currently pursuing her Master’s in Music Education. Ms. Videtto has a son, Charlie. #ForksUp #24Strong

Really enjoyed spending some time with the Villa Rica band and getting to talk with them today! Kevin Brown, Ann Wilson, and their staff are doing a great job and the kids have a wonderful work ethic!
