I’m saddened to learn of the death of Sen. Donatile Mukabalisa, former Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Republic of Rwanda. We worked closely on strengthening legislation within the region through the Speakers and Presiding Officers Forum. She extended great hospitality to @Parliament_Ug sports team during the East African Parliamentary Games two years ago. East Africa has lost a strong advocate for the region’s integration agenda and an astute legislator. My condolences to her family, the Speaker, and members of the Senate of the Republic of Rwanda. I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear colleague, Senator Donatille Mukabalisa.

I had the privilege of serving under her leadership as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, and later alongside her in the Senate. Beyond Parliament, we worked together as leaders of our respective political parties—she as President of the Liberal Party (PL) and I as President of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda—and through the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations.

Over the years, I came to know her as a humble, principled, and dedicated leader who always placed Rwanda's interests above all else. Her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering commitment to public service earned the respect of colleagues across the political spectrum.

On behalf of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, and in my capacity as Spokesperson of the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations, I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, the Liberal Party, fellow Senators, friends, and all Rwandans.
