Whoops, I thought this was a bigger deal than it was. The frequency doubling, it turns out, actually happened back in January. I have corrected the article. But I'm still glad I wrote it, because it gave me an opportunity to talk about HB 328.
Tomorrow, Athens Transit will expand service, doubling frequency on routes 12 and 14 and shifting route 22 to start 30 minutes earlier in the morning.

A final mayoral debate will be held TONIGHT at the ACC Library at 6 pm, hosted by the Athens Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in partnership with the Junior League of Athens.
I also explain in this article why HB 328 -- cited by mayoral candidate Dexter Fisher during the last debate -- should have little to no effect on transit funding in Athens despite the wishes of one of its sponsors, Houston Gaines.
What happened in this year's state legislative session?
The highlights: a ban on EMS surprise billing, a need-based college scholarship, banning cell phones in high schools and making certain types of peaceful protest punishable by up to a year in jail.

Mayoral candidates Tim Denson and Dexter Fisher faced off in a debate at the historic Morton Theater on Saturday.
Early voting for the runoff starts next week.

Can you imagine an Athens where everyone has an affordable place to live?
Documentary filmmaker Joe Lavine asks Athens residents to give their thoughts on housing and describe what policies they’d like to see to improve housing affordability.

Tim Denson, candidate for mayor, gave a (partial) victory speech tonight at Athentic, calling on his volunteers to keep at it for another month, until the June 16 runoff.
Denson seems likely to come in first place, having 38% of the vote right now (not all votes are in).
"We can make Athens the shining example in the Southeast of a community that takes care of its people...This is a wealthy, well-resourced community. We need to make sure it's providing just as well for those who are struggling as it is for the president of UGA.”
-Tim Denson
Polls have closed now and we're awaiting the results of the 2026 local election and primary.
I'll be heading over to Tim Denson's election night party at Athentic to check it out and write updates from there.
Wow. Officials say Democrats are now slightly leading Republicans in Election Day vote, with about 770,000 ballots cast so far today. That’s on top of the ~150k D edge during the early-vote period. This could have big implications for the Georgia Supreme Court races. #gapol
