Welcome to my Profile! Here I post whatever crap I feel like and sometimes do Transit Adventure Threads, which are all linked below.
As a Bay Area native, there is so much to explore and I encourage you to use transit to get there!
@philobaza@Colin_d_m@metrolosangeles This is the worst case scenario, and that’s the issue. If it only wins in the worse case (maybe 2 days a week), then it isn’t winning at all. And, as someone else commented, last mile adds at minimum 10 minutes on each end, (parking at dest probably cancels one side) but still
So what the youth board has studied and found, plus what the fare numbers have been saying are finally being said out loud?
Glad we could finally get here.
According to San Francisco public transit officials, nearly half of all trips on Muni do not result in any form of payment, and up to a quarter of trips involve fare evasion.
The SFMTA director said, "We can’t afford to sustain Muni service without people paying their fare."

@duckdoquack i got that but the details seem to be hand picked cuz they are actually accurate which is a surprise
but gathering from his other comment maybe not
Look at this graphic. Broadway and College Park get less than 100 riders per day? Brdwy DOESNT EVEN HAVE WKDY SVC and college park gets 4 TRAINS PER DAY.
Be serious here
Like BART, Caltrain is trying to panic voters into supporting a tax hike by threatening to decimate service. Less draconian alternatives are available: with over $240 million in revenue, Caltrain should still be able to provide a lot of service.
@MissionLoco@JackieFielder_@lyft@AskLyft uh. This is how it always is during a work day. The bikes transfer for commute, and you would know that they go back if you actually used it? Also, Lyft has been doing a better job recently, bike availability has been noticeably better recently
@HaydenM16 if you get a chance take the bus out to Sollenkronka and then the ferry back. There is an island somewhere in the middle where you can get out and walk to another terminal to pick up another ferry about 40 minutes layer. greatest experience of my trip (bus was at like 5:30)
San Diego California resident shows the city just put in this very short bike lane on an 805 freeway exit
It’s brand new, crosses the freeway entrance and exit, goes a short distance and then ends at a road not even open to the public
It serves no purpose. Money laundering
@Spelt_D_o_n_a_l@bryanculbertson Just as an exercise, what mode do you think is best for BART - SMART? Some representation of a SMART DMU or eBART? or BART fully to Novato?
This shuttle is the stupidest things considering the GGT 580 exists. The place that this shuttle is most desperately needed is the SM-Hayward Br. (also this bike path was nice to bike yes, but not a good use of space on this bridge, HOV lane + run more busses)
Caltrans will spend the next 2+ years studying the equity implications of the Richmond San-Rafael bike lane which was serving a few dozen riders on most weekdays. Those riders now get a free shuttle ride over the bridge while drivers pay an $8.50 toll.

@bryanculbertson I write this on the 150 up to San Rafael right now, and so with this in mind we should also do an HOT lane from Marin City -> SF over the bridge :)
@bryanculbertson I wouldn't mind a shoulder but on the receiving end send 2 lanes north to 101 and 1 lane to Sir Francis Drake, there is space for it really. Another idea would be an HOT lane, as thats basically a bus lane and you get the benefit of some revenue.
Excited to share this great video on how LA Metro rarely enforces fares anymore - my pal Alex has been working a ton behind the scenes lobbying metro + local officials to bring back random rail fare checks standard in most progressive countries!
