Whilst it may seem hard and in fact unpleasant to keep oneself constantly reminded of the war happening right next to our (and thus also NATO's and EU's) borders, and it may sometimes even seem confusing to some to see few Ukrainians here and there seemingly leading what might on surface be interpreted by some people as 'normal lives', the actual war with the terrorist state known as Putin's Russia is still very much going on.
And even though most of the "action" might be taking place in its easternmost regions, as the map I attached in the comment underneath this post clearly shows – rocket and drone strikes regularly happen even in areas very close to NATO's borders, such as, e.g. the city of Lviv (known in Polish as Lwów).
That's why it's crucial that the global community, esp. the Western states, continue to support Ukraine both in terms of humanitarian aid as well as military support so that the people who were invaded by a country which has shown time and again that it doesn't care much for the rules governing international relations* can be given at least a chance to properly defend themselves.
However also WE, as 'mere' ordinary citizens of the EU, shouldn't rely purely on the political will of our elites, for we also bear some responsibility to aid our fellow Europeans in their hour of need.
Had it not been for the amazing grassroots initiative of thousands upon thousands of Polish** people last year, just your average Kowalski's and Nowak's, as well as of course countless number of Polish NGOs, the Polish government on its own wouldn't manage to host those millions of war refugees who came to (and through) our country. The local, grassroots civic initiatives can often be way more successful than the standard bureaucratic institutions where immediate help is very much needed.
That's why, the luxury of choice which we have but our grandparents (who had to experience war first-hand) did not have, should be appreciate for what it actually is, ie. a luxury. Therefore when we make a choice whether we give at least from time to time a little bit of our own support or not, whatever form it might take (doesn't always have to be of financial nature), we'd do well to remember that and choose wisely, instead of basing our decision on some personal anecdotes, isolated cases of corruption and ingratitude, the current news cycle or whatever the politicians of this or that side might be saying at the UN summits. 😉

*) To which one might add that it's the very same country which despite its infamous lack of concern for human rights, has been nauseatingly supported for decades by considerable parts of the mainstream political establishment in Paris and Berlin...
**) And that of many other countries (such as Romania, Slovakia, Germany, the UK & the USA, etc.) naturally too 🤗🫶

@EmmanuelMacron Now, that both Brzezinski and Kissinger are no longer with us, we can say that the 20th century's era of diplomatic giants has truly ended.
As we learn of Henry Kissinger's passing, we're reminded of the enduring need for dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts. His career, marked by both controversy and achievement, underscores the complexity of global affairs. We remain committed to peace in Ukraine. 🕊️🇺🇦

103 years after Poland saved Europe from the Bolsheviks, Poland might have saved Europe from disintegrating into a clutch of petty, warring nationalist regimes, writes @DenisMacShane.
