What Ritabrata Banerjee says is the same reason why I'm saying TMC - Cong merger is not possible.

- Mamata Banerjee can't unilaterally decide on merger because party definition is clear as per ECI Section 29A of representation of peoples act the party means body of individual citizens

- Mamata is the party president but does not become a party herself. Party means Organization which includes all office bearers, all elected representatives etc

- To merge she needs the support of min 2/3rd of Organisation and currently clearly she don't have such support from MP, MLA, likely even Corporator and Panchayat members

- After loss even majority office bearers won't support her instead might support the rebel faction

- So she can join Cong on own with or without loyalists like Abhishek, Mahua etc but if loyalists join this will lead to disqualification from MP and MLA

- Her joining Congress will also mean the rebel faction becoming the original TMC along with symbol and party assets.

So, I feel this merger news is just the media created hype and nothing else max to max there might be TMC - Cong alliance for upcoming By Polls and ahead.
