Day 10 - Charing Cross and Waterloo East 22-day line closure

With Waterloo East station closed, we're making the most of this rare opportunity to carry out work that would be impossible to do when trains and passengers are moving through the station.

Teams are cleaning and treating steelwork, before applying new paint, on the footbridges that take passengers to and from the station, helping to protect the bridges from elements for years to come.

We are also replacing the window panels, more than 300 in total. The new windows are self-cleaning and will provide more light into the passageways. Additionally, these windows open, bringing some much needed breeze - especially in this weather.

These improvements are being delivered alongside major track renewals, platform upgrades and bridge repairs between Charing Cross and Waterloo East as part of a £20 million investment in one of the busiest parts of the Southeastern network.

Over the 22-day closure, @Se_Railway services are being diverted to London Victoria, Cannon Street, Blackfriars and London Bridge, with amended timetables across much of the network, and reduced frequency on some routes.

Apologies - we know how frustrating it is when a water fountain isn't working in this hot weather and we're awaiting a spare part for this particular one which is due to be fitted any day now. In the meantime, we have two other bottle refill points at Waterloo station:
