1/When Kamala Harris heard about @jjz1600 Jim Zogby's meeting with Jake Sullivan, she called him and asked what she should do.
Listen to Jim recount their conversation and share why he thought, in the end, she couldn't say or do more.

It was a privilege to host James Zogby @jjz1600 on The View From Here to share his experiences as a lifelong civil rights activist, democratic insider, Arab-American icon and talk about what the Democratic Party needs to learn after Gaza.

I created The View From Here to delve beyond the headlines and examine how policy impacts people.
This week the topic is rising antisemitism with a Rabbi who lived in London and moved to Australia just before the Bondi Beach attacks 1/2.

Our Jewish sisters and brothers are afraid. We Muslims know what that feels like. We know what it feels like to be asked to answer for those who misrepresent our religion. To be viewed with suspicion, fear, and even disdain and disgust. We know what it feels like to be asked to condemn, time and again, actions that do not align with our values, simply because of who we are.
That fear is the same fear Jews are feeling today, everywhere. To those who say, "and what about our fear? What about our murders and losses and pain?"
I say to you that the fear of one community does not negate that of another.
We have to stand together. We have to stand against those who seek to divide us and make us hate each other, who want us to believe that fear and trauma and pain are zero sum concepts.
And I want to say something that I know some of you won't like. As someone who has debated about the literal meaning of Intifada--"shaking off" [something oppressive]--I also believe that regardless of its meaning, people who use it should understand that it makes people afraid. And today, more than ever, we should be reaching across racial, religious, and national "divides" and make each other feel safe. Its the only way things get better, instead of this dark path we are on.
Yes to free speech. Of course. Yes to calling out those who weaponize religion to stifle freedoms. Yes to asking for the same empathy and protection offered to others.
But not this. Not people being killed for being who they are. Never this.
Is Keir Starmer doing enough to stand up to Donald Trump?
Sir Richard Dalton joined me this week on The View From Here to break down King Charles’ visit to the U.S. amidst Starmer’s troubles at home. No topic was off limits!

Agree with @AndrewMarr9 an @lewis_goodall assessments on King Charles’ visit to the U.S. and its impact on the U.S.-UK relationship in real terms.
I’ll also be discussing this with Sir Richard Dalton, former UK Amb to Iran, on this week’s episode of The View From Here so make sure you’re following the pod on YouTube (@viewfromherepod) and Spotify/Apple to be notified when it drops!
"These people, their belief system is, these wars with Israel are too costly. We can't win them. And this country cannot sustain open-ended war forever, given its already horrific problems, so what we need is peace with the Israelis.
I asked @faysalitani to break down the nuances of the "normalisation" conversation inside Lebanon on this week's episode of The View From Here--unsurprisingly, its more complicated than "x percentage of Lebanese are for it/against it."
Fun fact: Faysal gave me my first ever crash course on Lebanon, including introducing me to Ouzi, when we were the first interns for @paul_salem at the newly opened @CarnegieMEC in Beirut in the summer of 2007!
In this episode, we talked about the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire, today's meeting in Washington between the two countries' ambassadors, the prospects for disarming Hezbollah, how capable the government and the Lebanese Armed Forces really are, and the one thing Faysal worries about above all else.

"For the Houthis (Ansar Allah), Saudi Arabia is the main target, and one of the reasons there is a US-led regional order."
The Houthi factor increasingly matters for Saudi Arabia and the Bab al Mandeb crossing.
@BShtwtr explains the Houthis' longstanding greivances against the Saudi royal family.
" They're going to start steadily but gradually, step by step, to come in."
I asked my friend and brilliant Yemeni analyst @BShtwtr whether the Houthis had to enter the war at Iran's request, or does it also serve their own interests.
This entire episode is a must-listen.
"Israel acts upon its own assessment of security rather than an assessment based on its partners."
I asked Dubai Public Policy Research Centre's Director General @MABaharoon to assess whether the Abraham Accords was a good investment.
This is what he had to say:
"there's a danger that they just get each other angry and both of them are happy to be done, but they can't because neither of them is willing to find that way where they can both be seen as having "won."
My friend and former colleague @ilangoldenberg, always on the mark.
“This is not our war”
We’ve been hearing this again and again across the Gulf, and yet the UAE is increasingly taking a forward leaning posture.
I asked @MABaharoon what he thought about ongoing diplomatic efforts, and what the UAE would be prepared to do if they fail.
Iran's Strategic Mistake in the Gulf:
@MABaharoon on how the UAE views Iran's attacks on the Gulf, and how he thinks it was a grave mistake.

As President Trump meets Maria Corina Machado at the White House, while praising president Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuelan journalist @cesarbaezc explains how the Maduro/Rodriguez regime has worked to discredit the opposition through forced exile and targeted repression.
As Trump mulls strikes and other options in Iran, an important element seems to be missing: day-after planning.
Tomorrow's on The View From Here, former diplomat (and colleague during the Obama admin) Negah Angha explains how to support Iranians in planning for their future 1/
Venezuelan journalist @cesarbaezc describes his reaction to the fall of #Maduro, the way it happened, and the #DelcyRodríguez-led regime that remains intact.

"Its a lie from start to finish."
President Obama's advisor on Latin America, Ricardo Zuniga, calls out Stephen Miller's lies about Venezuelan oil and explains the sinister reason behind the administration's classification of drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations instead of criminal gangs.

“We are speaking out now because moments like this demand more than condemnation. They
demand courage, restraint and a willingness to invest — patiently and deliberately — in the
conditions that make hatred harder to sustain.”
I’m lucky to have gotten know Ron over the last year and learn about the incredible work his organization Rozana is doing in the field of health diplomacy, bringing Israelis and Palestinians together to invest in Palestine’s health infrastructure and personnel.
Ron is also Australian and Jewish, and along with his Australian Muslim colleague Jamal Rifi has authored this important oped in the wake of the recent antisemitic terrorist attack in Bondi beach.
I urge you all to read it and to check out Rozana’s website to learn more about their work and how to support it.
It is through words and actions like those of Ron and Jamal that we can combat the forces of hate and extremism that threaten us all.

I recorded two incredibly informative conversations this week for The View From Here, both of which you should listen to to understand the full context behind the Trump-Mamdani meeting.
