Pitchers and catchers get rolling today.  So do I.

Right. Honest question, without emotion: Is there a less impactful front office in the NFL? In sports? A less impactful coaching staff? Two areas with no salary cap getting in the way.

[Bobby Reneau @BobbyReneau]

@NewbergReport Gross, predictable, and about as low football IQ as you can imagine. I find basketball more cerebral than a Cowboy game.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

It’s so freeing.

[Matt B. @bashews]

@NewbergReport I still haven’t mastered the art of disconnecting from this dumpster fire

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Well, they’ve been garbage for a while but were almost always entertaining. Now they’re just garbage and boring. It’s gross.

[Matt B. @bashews]

@NewbergReport I don’t think boring is the correct word to use at all

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

The most valuable franchise in American sports is so boring.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Vilade possibly not demonstrative enough on an inside slide there.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

In this week's Hops: MLB awards time, some (Rangers-adjacent) Rays and Brewers notes, an interesting Sebastian Walcott feature and other Rangers prospects show up in the metrics leaders, some COFFEY trade rumors, and more.

My man Machota on fire on a Friday.

[Jon Machota @jonmachota]

Dak Prescott

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Big, since strategically you don't (or by rule you can't) challenge every close pitch.

[remnanttexan 🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇦 @remnanttexan]

@NewbergReport Curious, in the age of ABS, how important is pitch framing?

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Wish I'd seen this before hitting send -- Texas catchers were dead last in MLB in pitch-framing this year:

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

And so we begin.

The position-by-position series is underway.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Yeah, you’d think they’d mention that.

[Joe Simpson @JoeSimpson85983]

@NewbergReport It means in a 7 game series

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Incorrect.

[FOX Sports: MLB @MLBONFOX]

The Brewers are only the third team in MLB history to sweep a 100-win team

[Sarah Langs @SlangsOnSports]

This was the 11th best-of-7 postseason series between 100-win teams. It’s the first to end in a sweep

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Gorgeous.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

🤘

Garrett Mitchell had one L-on-L home run in 2026.

He has 2 in the last two nights.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Part of what allowed Texas to go over slot in 2021 on Leiter, Cauley, Moller, and (especially) Bratt was signing Liam Hicks for 30k in his 9th-round, $161,400 slot. Great find by area scout Dustin Smith (a former catcher himself).

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Poor Dodgers. Shame.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

Wow.

[Jamey Newberg @NewbergReport]

The Rays, man.
