Discover the castle near St Colman’s church! This 3D virtual tour provides access to Lanistown Castle in the grounds of Newbridge Demesne. One of few surviving tower houses in Fingal, Lanistown Castle is a three storey dwelling probably built in the 15th century by the Bathe family. It continued to was occupied until the early 19th century when the adjoining and surrounding buildings were demolished by the then owner, Charles Cobbe.

Lanistown Castle is a recipient of a grant from the 2024 Community Monuments Fund. Consolidation works will include essential masonry and mortar repairs to address structural failure, loss of mortar and masonry, water ingress; and to arrest and retard the damage arising from the accelerated effects of climate change.

@NewbridgeHF Newbridge House is a real gem and it's only a short walk from the train station in Donabate. Many thanks to our tour guide Michael who showed us around the house and parklands - he was really passionate and knowledgeable about the estate.

Morning in Newbridge Demesne Donabate

[Fingal County Council @Fingalcoco]

Fingal’s heritage properties or “the Big Houses” such as Malahide Castle, Ardgillan Castle and Newbridge have an association with the counties food heritage that goes beyond fine dining rooms and elaborate recipes. The story of food at the Big Houses offers an insight not only into what previous generations of the households there were eating, but also the role in historic houses and demesnes played in food production in Fingal, and the associated social history of the people that worked in them.

Join curator Cathal Dowd-Smith for a unique insight into the food heritage of Newbridge House Demesne.

The parapet urns have also been conserved and stabilised and we look forward to seeing them in the coming weeks as the remainder of the scaffolding comes down. The house remains open for tours, so come join us to learn more!

[Newbridge House & Farm @NewbridgeHF]

As part of the ongoing conservation works our windows have been repaired, an especially nice job having been done on these lesser seen 1860s dormers. Lead that lines the roof has all been repaired and replaced helping to keep the house dry and protected.

At Newbridge House, we're safeguarding our rich heritage for generations to come. Our dedicated team is hard at work, ensuring the building's legacy lives on through careful conservation and restoration efforts.

From weatherproofing the roof to maintaining the building's original character, we're committed to honouring its history. The massive scaffold has been a lifesaver, keeping us on schedule despite the unpredictable weather.

As we prepare to lower the scaffold in the coming weeks, we're excited to begin facade restoration work, all while staying true to the building's unique charm.

Newbridge House Demesne opened as a regional park in 1986, with approximately 370 acres of gently undulating pastureland, woodland walks, a deer park, lime kiln, the ruins of Lanistown Castle, watercourses and pleasure grounds. The focal point of the Demesne is the impressive Newbridge House.
