Did you know that plastic accounts for 60-90% of the waste found in marine environments?*
Plastic straws are one of the most littered items across the state, but programs like this are decreasing the number of straws found on our shorelines.** When you take that next sip of your favorite beverage, consider going straight for the glass or bottle if you can. This will help reduce unnecessary plastic consumption and pollution that helps keep New Jersey clean and free of litter!

🌧️ A Nor’easter is expected to impact New Jersey, especially along the coast. DEP is working hard to prepare for the storm and Commissioner Ed Potosnak is reminding residents to follow state and local guidance and to stay safe.
Stay Weather Ready: https://t.co/ggTRgMo5gl
We’re keeping a close watch on this coastal storm as it moves through our region.
Coastal flooding remains our biggest concern, with multiple rounds of tidal flooding possible through the weekend. Strong winds, high surf, dangerous rip currents, and beach erosion are also expected to continue.
Please follow official alerts and stay aware of conditions in your area. If you live in a flood-prone community, take steps now to prepare – and never drive through a flooded road.
🌳 ICYMI: New Jersey marked Climate Week by planting a milestone tree in Trenton.
DEP Commissioner Ed Potosnak joined the @New Jersey Conservation Foundation, local officials and community leaders to plant the 1,000th tree through Trees for Trenton, a community project funded through DEP’s Natural Climate Solutions Grant Program.
The milestone also highlighted $9.4 million in new funding for eight Natural Climate Solutions projects across New Jersey. These projects are helping restore ecosystems, strengthen community resilience and capture carbon.
In Trenton, the final tree was a London plane tree planted along South Clinton Avenue, an area vulnerable to urban heat island impacts.
Climate Week is a chance to highlight the work happening across New Jersey to prepare communities for flooding, extreme heat, storms and sea level rise.

A coastal storm is expected to impact New Jersey over the next several days, with the biggest impacts coming Wednesday and Thursday.
Strong winds, coastal flooding, high surf, and beach erosion are possible, especially along the Jersey Shore and tidal waterways. Some power outages and downed trees are also possible.
Please monitor your local forecast and emergency alerts, charge your devices, and never drive through flooded areas.
From @NWS_MountHolly earlier this morning: "There have been no significant changes to the forecast through Fri regarding the coastal flooding. Coastal flooding is anticipated to worsen with each passing high tide through at least Fri night."
