The evaluation form and list of additional resources have now been sent out. Attendees, check your inbox and please consider spending five minutes of your time to share your thoughts and feels! Your feedback will be tremendously valuable for future planning efforts. 🧐
Oof again the idea that librarians, and other feminized fields can “fill in” for other social services because they inherently can work with people, not only deprofessionalizes these fields but implies that women were born to care for others.
And who could forget @irlGiles and @beastlibrarian's epic task of creating a union for all library workers in the midst of a gd pandemic? Not our #NewLibSymp21 crew!! Learn more about their inspiring work in this slidedeck (complete with speaking notes): https://t.co/ZKwGLnEv1T
Over the next little bit, we'll be sharing recorded versions of some of the #NewLibSymp21 lightning talks (provided the presenter feels comfortable with us doing so). Due to the nature of the hands-on workshop and the real talk panel, these sessions were not recorded.
Next up, we have Melissa DeWitt who discusses the ways in which library leaders use language to exploit workers in times of crisis: https://t.co/h1DlzKFkmH #NewLibSymp21
If you’re aware that we’re careening towards a cliff as we head into Fall/Winter 2021 & find it surreal to see society carrying on as tho we’re returning to normal, I’m just logging on to assure you that you’re not imagining things. Prepare as best you can. Praying for everyone.
Seeing a bunch of librarians argue that they would have to accept donated racist material because otherwise it would be censorship is a great reminder as to why the profession and libraries remain so hostile to POC.
To all library workers around the world. One of the many things that COVID has demonstrated is that if you are not already part of a union… now is the time to join one! Solidarity with Worthington library workers in their upcoming efforts. @local4948 https://t.co/bJlkDY4FQK
We will also have to make peace with this truth: grind culture is so violent and pervasive that many of you will not want to get free from it no matter how much rest is presented to you from a justice lens. No matter how exhausted you are.
Don't miss the annual Women Archivists Section Meeting, this Wednesday July 14th at 5pm EST! We want to hear your thoughts for the future of our section. You must register here for Zoom link (but it's free/ unconnected to the SAA Annual Meeting). https://t.co/MvySv4U3to
If you are attending the @OCULA_OLA Conference tomorrow, we have another session we think you should check out. This one is a panel and it is called Supporting Equitable Labour: Reflections during COVID-19. Learn more and register here: https://t.co/jK6M4HUSe5
Please read this. It seems like Library Journal purposefully chooses the worst libraries to uplift. First Seattle Public and their transphobia and now Chicago Public with its horrific Covid-19 response 🙄🙄🙄
@4948president@Local4948 Thanks for leading such a fantastic session! Attendees were really appreciative of you and Emma sharing so much of your strategies, ideas, and time. You truly inspired us! 💪🔥🗣️
