@DavidPoland I understand but what made me tear up is all the scenes involving Margaret’s empathic powers (the real point of the movie) not the ending which left me cold.
@DavidPoland I reckon the visual clues that can be found in the film do not work for everyone and that the script is lacking. It’s a strange, chaotic, imbalanced movie, but also very moving in several scenes.
@DavidPoland It was clear to me as this is what I understood from the film - the gesture from In Vivo at the end taking the heads of Margaret and Daniel with his hands as he did when they were kids gives this away.
@DavidPoland another exemple: why the ugly opening on the catch match? Because it's Trump's favorite sport and Spielberg wants to replace this by the consoling image of Margaret listening to and healing people.
@DavidPoland This was already the case in A.I to some extent, which ends with a reunion, but it's an illusion (the mother's dead). DD's script is not very good, but I think several plot holes were left purposefully (it makes no sense to end the film with "listen" with such a title).
@DavidPoland No, they know about the girl already. In Vivo 26 (or whatever the number is) is the alien who gave empathy to the girl and he is behind Hugo's plan so he remembers the house.
@DavidPoland The real climax occurs when Margaret returns home. It's the kind of movie where you need to look beyond the script because the images and the themes tell another story. DD says that only empathy (embodied by Margaret) can save our world - it's not about the aliens but about us.
