Whenever I had a bad day (or even just a meh day), I would go to @cineworld and things would be good for a couple of hours. Today was one of the shittest days ever, so I'm missing @cineword more than ever today. I hope you are able to open your doors again soon. ๐คโค
@oldandrewuk@jennife03879567@adamboxer1 No. Memorising a list of number sentences isn't a necessary life skill. The ability to break difficult problems up into smaller, more manageable chunks is.
@oldandrewuk@jennife03879567@adamboxer1 No. I teach in a 14-19 school and if they get to me not knowing their times tables I teach them methods where they don't need to learn above 10x anything. Combining equivalent fractions and bus stop division. So 144/6 is 14/6=2r2 and 24/6=4 so 144/6=24.
Happy Birthday Graeme. You'd have been 10 today and I know you would have been one of the naughty kids that teachers can't help but like. I miss you and love you always. Xxx
@missgeog92 ๐ฒ I never realised that one benefit to being a maths/science teacher is never having to read or mark the phrase "racism comes in handy"! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
@DrDavidBoyce Reads to me like they're saying their maths dept is currently rubbish and they want someone to magically turn it around. But that person will have to be at odds with everyone else in the dept to do so. Sounds like a challenging, tiring, lonely job.
A history lesson for people who think that history doesn't matter:
What's the big deal about railroad tracks?
The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That's an exceedingly odd number.
Why was that gauge used?
Well, because that's the way
Started trying to learn a bit of greek on @duolingo and realised the words/letters were easier to sound out than I expected... turns out #maths has been (not so) secretly training me to read #greek all these years! ๐๐

During the summer term (our term 4) my school runs a tech camp for local and international students and I have the awesome job of running the robotics sessions. #robotics#codingkids#legomindstorms https://t.co/jmPbcpClUv
So next year I'm teaching KS5 Maths KS5 Physics and GCSE Combined Science Chemistry...
Can anyone recommend any people to follow on twitter, or websites for resources/ideas for GCSE Chemistry?
My uni exam starts in 8hrs 15 mins so I can't sleep. Tomorrow is #OUexam then into work for yr11 #GCSErevision for the last maths paper on Tuesday. ๐ฌ #Icandothis#SoonBeSummer
Today was a really great day and reminded me why I love my job and my school. ๐ It was filled with little wins - a student who struggles to engage nailed the set task, another who 'hates maths' actively engaged in pair work, a great yr12 HL lesson. #loveteaching#lovemaths ๐๐
