The Choice to See

The United Nations was founded after one of the darkest chapters in human history with the promise that every human life matters and the world must not ignore suffering.
However, the institution has repeatedly failed to act and has effectively aligned itself with the Islamic Republic instead of the Iranian people.
It has not addressed the killing of more than 40,000 Iranians, including children, in the January street protests, the ongoing weekly executions, the prisons full of torture and protesters, and the systematic destruction of the nation’s livelihood. For years, Iranians have paid with their lives and futures for freedom, while the United Nations has chosen silence and, in practice, sided with those responsible.
The most important asset of any global institution is the trust placed in it during crises, the expectation that humanity will be protected. That trust is now eroding. When people facing serious violations see global institutions not only fail to help but stand against them, a core part of shared humanity is weakened.

سازمان ملل متحد پس از یکی از تاریک‌ترین دوره‌های تاریخ بشر شکل گرفت؛ بر پایه‌ی این باور که جان انسان، فارغ از مرز، سیاست و قدرت، ارزشی برابر دارد و جهان در برابر رنج انسان‌ها مسئول است. هیچ‌کس انتظار نداشت این نهاد کامل باشد. اما انتظار می‌رفت که سکوت، هرگز به زبان رسمی‌اش تبدیل نشود.
سال‌هاست مردم ایران بهای آزادی را با جان، جوانی و آینده‌ی خود می‌پردازند. اعدام‌ها ادامه دارند، زندان‌ها پر می‌��وند و خانواده‌های بی‌شماری در عزا می‌نشینند. با این همه، آنچه بیش از هر چیز باقی مانده این پرسش است: آیا رنج بعضی ملت‌ها کمتر از آن است که دیده شود؟
شاید بزرگ‌ترین سرمایه‌ی هر نهاد جهانی، ساختمان‌ها، نشست‌ها یا قطعنامه‌هایش نباشد؛ بلکه اعتمادی باشد که انسان‌ها در تاریک‌ترین لحظه‌های زندگی‌شان به آن چنگ می‌زنند. این باور که اگر همه‌چیز از دست برود، هنوز جایی هست که انسانیت را به خاطر بیاورد. و شاید تلخ‌ترین شکست همین‌جا رقم بخورد؛ نه آن‌گاه که نهادی نمی‌تواند جهان را تغییر دهد، بلکه آن‌گاه که مردمی که رنج می‌کشند دیگر باور ندارند کسی صدایشان را خواهد شنید. آن روز، چیزی فراتر از اعتماد از دست می‌رود و بخشی از معنای انسانیت خاموش می‌ شود.

بله، ایران ارث پدری ماست.

این اثر، پاسخ من به آن دسته از حامیان جمهوری اسلامیست که می‌گویند چون دوری، دیگر حقی برای حرف زدن از ایران نداری.
تبعید، آدم را از ریشه‌اش جدا نمی‌کند و فاصله، حقِ تعلق را از بین نمی‌برد. ایران ملکِ هیچ حکومت و قدرتی نیست..نه چیزی‌ست که از ما بگیرند، نه هویتی که روی آن مُهر بزنند و مصادره کنند. این لباسِ کهن را هر قدر هم بکوبند، پاره کنند و زخم بزنند، باز بر تنِ ماست. می‌توانند زخمی‌اش کنند، اما نمی‌توانند از ما جدایش کنند.
ما فرزندان همان خانه‌ایم. ایران مادر ماست و با همه‌ی زخم‌ها و شکستگی‌هایش، ایستاده است و آزاد خواهد شد.

This work is my response to those regime supporters who message me saying, “You live abroad now, so you have no right to speak about Iran.”
Many of us did not choose to leave our homeland. We were pushed out by the suffocating conditions created by the Islamic Republic. We left everything behind, rebuilt our lives from nothing and endured immense hardships, but Iran never left us.
Iran belongs to no regime and no power. It is not something they can take from us.
We are the children of the same home. Iran is our mother. And this mother, with all her wounds and fractures, still stands tall.
She will be free.

Us Against Us

In this work, Iranians are entangled in a web of red threads. For 47 years, the Islamic Republic has systematically created insoluble knots among the people, breaking trust and turning Iranian against Iranian. It has made us forget the real enemy and waste our anger, pain, and energy fighting one another. Above them, the Islamic Republic looms like a dark, heavy spider, ruling over these knots.

Today, with bitterness but with clarity, we have come to understand that in this struggle, there is no savior except ourselves. Despite all our differences and wounds, we must recognize these knots, untangle them, and stand together.
Because the freedom of Iran can only be achieved by our own united hands.
Iran First.

“What Was Dealt to Minab”
The tragedy of Minab School runs much deeper than what we’ve been told.
The Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab was part of the IRGC Naval Base (Nedsa) until 2013. Even after a separating wall was built and the buildings were painted with bright school colors, military equipment remained directly behind the walls and around the schoolyard.
The Islamic Republic used these children as human shields. They placed them inside a military base so that if war broke out, their lives could be sacrificed for the regime’s propaganda and survival.
This tragedy was the result of a deliberate and systematic policy that sacrificed the lives of the most innocent.
We will neither forgive nor forget this crime.

عمق فاجعه «مدرسه میناب» بسیار بالاتر از اون چیزیست که ما میشنویم.
مدرسهٔ شجره طیبهٔ میناب تا سال ۱۳۹۲ بخشی از پادگان نیروی دریایی سپاه پاسداران (ندسا) بو��. حتی بعد از جداسازی ظاهری با دیوار، تجهیزات نظامی دقیقاً پشت دیوار و اطراف حیاط مدرسه نگه داشته شد.
جمهوری اسلامی کودکان را به عنوان سپر انسانی استفاده کرد. آنها را در دل یک پایگاه نظامی قرار داد تا اگر جنگی شد، جانشان را فدای روایت و بقای قدرت خودش کند. این فاجعه نتیجهٔ سیاست عمدی و سیستماتیک رژیم است که جان معصوم‌ترین‌ها را قربانی کرد.
ما این جنایت را نه می‌بخشیم و نه فراموش نمی‌کنیم.

Burning Inside

On the state of us Iranians living outside Iran…
In the morning you go grocery shopping, you go to work, you smile at strangers and say “I’m fine,” but your entire night is drowned in the news, searching for who was arrested, who was tortured, who was executed, and who somehow survived.
You watch a regime that has cut off the internet for 69 days, adds more names to the lists of prisoners and the gallows every day, has set the economy on fire, and even after the horrific tragedy of January 8–9, with 40,000 killed, every day you see new faces of the victims and realize all over again how many people have been lost.
You fall asleep carrying a heavy burden of grief, anxiety, and guilt, while everyone around you laughs, makes plans, and continues their normal lives as if nothing has happened.
Then the next morning you wake up again, and repeat the same painful cycle from the beginning.

وضعیت ما ایرانی‌های خارج از ایران…
صبح می‌ری خرید، می‌ری سر کار، به غریبه‌ها لبخند می‌زنی و می‌گی «خوبم»..در حالیکه تمام شبت رو توی اخبار غرق شدی..دنبال این‌که کی دستگیر شد، کی شکنجه شد، کی اعدام شد و کی یه جورایی زنده موند.
نگاه می‌کنی به رژیمی که ۶۹ روز اینترنت رو قطع کرده، هر روز اسم‌های بیشتری به لیست زندانی‌ها و چوبه‌های دار اضافه می‌شه، اقتصاد رو به آتش کشیده، و هنوز بعد از اون فاجعه وحشتناک ۱۸ و ۱۹ دی‌ماه با ۴۰ هزار کشته، هر روز صورت جدیدی از قربانی‌ها رو می‌بینی و تازه می‌فهمی چقدر آدم از دست رفته.
با یه بار سنگین از غم، اضطراب و احساس گناه می‌خوابی، در حالی که دور و برت همه می‌خندن، برنامه می‌ریزن و زندگی‌شون رو عادی ادامه می‌دن، انگار هیچی نشده.
بعد فردا صبح دوباره بیدار می‌شی… و همه ی این چرخه رو از اول تکرار می‌کنی.

غلامحسین محسنی‌اژه‌ای، رئیس قوه قضائیه جمهوری اسلامی، در اظهارات اخیر خود (۱۰ اردیبهشت ۱۴۰۵) به‌صراحت به منتقدان مجازات اعدام حمله کرد و گفت:
«تو کی هستی که می‌گویی اعدام نکنیم؟ تو غلط کردی!»
او مخالفان اعدام را «حقیر و بی‌ارزش»، «لئیم و خبیث» و «پیاده‌نظام دشمن متجاوز» خواند و از قضات خواست احکام اعدام را با سرعت بیشتری صادر و اجرا کنند.
این اظهارات در حالی مطرح می‌شود که جمهوری اسلامی در ادامه موج جدیدی از اعدام‌ها، از این مجازات به‌عنوان ابزاری برای خاموش کردن صداهای معترض و سرکوب مخالفان استفاده می‌کند.

The Demon of the Judiciary

Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eje’i, Head of Iran’s Judiciary, recently attacked critics of the death penalty, stating:
“Who are you to say we shouldn’t execute? You have no right.”

He described opponents as “despicable and worthless,” “vile and treacherous,” and “foot soldiers of the invading enemy,” while urging judges to accelerate the issuance and implementation of death sentences.

These remarks come as the Islamic Republic continues a new wave of executions, widely seen as a tool to silence dissent and suppress opposition.

در روایت‌های مختلف گفته شده که مجروحان را از تخت‌ها بردند. در بعضی موارد، حتی به بیمارانی که هنوز به سرم و دستگاه‌های پزشکی وصل بودند، از فاصله نزدیک شلیک شد.

Not Even Here

During Iran’s nationwide protests, even hospitals were drawn into the machinery of repression. Reports described security forces entering hospitals, pressuring medical staff, and targeting the wounded.

In multiple accounts, the wounded were taken from their beds. In some cases, the violence extended further, with patients still connected to IV lines and monitors reportedly shot at close range. Doctors and nurses spoke of bodies still attached to medical equipment, of fresh wounds to the head and chest, of wards that no longer felt like places of healing.

These accounts have been documented by international media, human rights organizations, and medical personnel who witnessed them.

از دهه ۱۹۸۰ میلادی، شهادت‌ها و گزارش‌های متعددی از زندان‌های جمهوری اسلامی ایران منتشر شده که از اشکالی از خشونت فراتر از اعدام خبر می‌دهند.
بر اساس این روایت‌ها، گفته شده است که زنان جوانی که باکره بودند، پیش از اعدام به ازدواج موقت («صیغه») وادار می‌شدند، با این توجیه که فرد باکره مستقیم به بهشت می‌رود. سپس به آن‌ها تجاوز می‌شد و بعد اعدام می‌شدند.
در برخی موارد، خانواده‌ها بعداً پیکر دختران خود را همراه با مبلغی ناچیز به‌عنوان «مهریه» یا سندی دریافت می‌کردند؛ سندی سرد از آنچه پیش از مرگ بر آن‌ها گذشته ��ود.
شهادت‌های دیگر و گزارش‌های حقوق بشری همچنین از خشونت جنسی علیه زنان زندانی به‌عنوان ابزاری برای تحقیر و کنترل خبر داده‌اند؛ اقداماتی که با اصطلاحاتی مانند «مجاز» یا «غنیمت جنگی» توجیه می‌شدند.
این اقدامات به نام جمهوری اسلامی و در چارچوب ساختار آن انجام شده‌اند و الگوهای مشابهی در سال‌های اخیر نیز در گزارش‌ها دیده می‌شود. اعدام و خشونت پیرامون آن، بخشی از همین ساختار است.

Stolen Paradise

Since the 1980s, numerous testimonies and reports have emerged from prisons in the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing forms of violence that went beyond execution. [1]
These accounts state that young women who were virgins were forced into temporary marriages (“sigheh”) before their execution, under the justification that a virgin would go straight to heaven. They were raped, and then executed. [2]
In some cases, families later received their daughters’ bodies along with a small “marriage payment” or a document, a cold record of what had been done to them before death. [3]
Other testimonies and human rights reports have also described sexual violence against imprisoned women as a tool of humiliation and control, acts that were justified with terms such as “permissible” or “war spoils.” [4]
These acts were carried out in the name of the Islamic Republic and within the framework of its system, and similar patterns have continued to appear in reports in recent years. Execution, and the violence surrounding it, are part of that same structure. [5]

What About Gas Prices?

The “new” Islamic Republic increases executions every day. Executions are being carried out faster and the pace has clearly intensified.
In 2025, at least 1,639 executions were recorded, a 68% increase compared to 2024, marking the highest number in decades.
In this process, protesters are labeled as “enemy collaborators” and orders have been given to accelerate executions without leniency.
The internet has been cut and heavily restricted for weeks while more evidence continues to emerge of the organized killings on January 8–9.

«رژیم جدید» جمهوری اسلامی هر روز بر تعداد اعدام‌ها می‌افزاید. اعدام‌ها با سرعت بیشتری اجرا می‌شوند و این روند به شکل محسوسی تشدید شده.
در سال ۲۰۲۵ با ثبت حداقل ۱۶۳۹ اعدام، که ۶۸ درصد بیشتر از ۲۰۲۴ است، بالاترین آمار چند دهه اخیر رقم خورد.
در همین روند، معترضان با برچسب همکار دشمن معرفی می‌شوند و دستور داده شده احکام اعدام سریع‌تر و بدون بخشش اجرا شوند.
اینترنت هفته‌هاست قطع و به شدت محدود است و همزمان تصاویر بیشتری از کشتار سازمان یافته ۱۸ و ۱۹ دی منتشر می‌شود.

This year, blooming feels like defiance..

For 47 years, the Islamic Republic has tried to erase Iranian identity and traditions and to impose its own ideology by force, but it has never succeeded. Iranians, even in the hardest times, have held on to their traditions and remain deeply committed to them.
Today, in the midst of war, while we have no news from our loved ones in Iran because of internet shutdowns, with concern for prisoners, with reports of executions, and in mourning those we have lost, we will still celebrate Nowruz.

In memory of all those who lost their lives. May hope, like a small sprout, rise again in the heart of Iran…

نوروز ۱۴۰۵ (۲۵۸۵)

امسال، شکفتن خودش نوعی نافرمانی‌ست…

در این ۴۷ سال، رژیم جمهوری اسلامی بارها تلاش کرده هویت و آیین‌های ایرانی را از بین ببرد و به‌جای آن، آنچه می‌خواهد را به اجبار تحمیل کند، اما هرگز موفق نشده. ایرانی‌ها حتی در سخت‌ترین شرایط، آیین‌هایشان را حفظ کرده‌اند و همچنان به آن پایبندند.
امروز، در میان جنگ، در حالی که به‌دلیل قطع اینترنت از حال عزیزانمان در ایران بی‌خبریم، با نگرانی از وضعیت زندانیان، با خبر اعدام‌ها و در سوگ از دست دادن هم‌وطنانمان، نوروز را همچنان برگزار می‌کنیم.

به یاد همه جاویدنامان. باشد که امید، چون جوانه‌ای، در دل ایران دوباره سر برآورد….
