To my Peruvian brothers and sisters who are here illegally.

I am going to keep this simple.

My wife legally entered the U.S. and then overstayed her visa.

She was 'legal' when I met her but 'illegal' before we married.

After we married, I learned that we could not fix her status unless she returned to Peru and started the process all over.

We'd barely been married three months, and she self-deported back to Peru.

I was on active duty in the Army, facing my third deployment to Iraq.

An immigration lawyer, nearly two years and thousands of dollars later, she got her green card and returned

She then became a citizen.

Even though she had a degree in biochemistry from the University of San Marcos and had been a pharmacist in Peru, it meant nothing here.

She went back to school while having two children.

She is now a Medical Laboratory Scientist working for the VA, helping veterans.

I never disrespected Peru on my visits.

You disrespect my country every day you are here illegally.

Shut up.

Pack your bags.

Go home.

Do better.
