@martinsth
What a shoddy and misleading report! Here are some of the inaccuracies:
🔸 Crooks are convicted criminals and therefor not eligible for #citizenship-by-investment (#CBI). The due diligence process of @CIPSaintLucia@DominicaCBIU@CIUSKN et al is robust and includes verification of police records issued by the country of origin.
Of course, no country on earth can prevent a naturalised (new) #citizen from making a wrong turn and falling foul of the law. Why don’t you point out that persons named had no criminal record at the time of application? BTW, many EU/EFTA 🇪🇺🇱🇮🇳🇴🇨🇭countries issue citizenship after some years of #residence without police clearances from the country of origin!
🔸 Mr. Low (like Mr. Choksi and Mr. Ananiev) was not wanted and had a clean record when he obtained his #SecondPassport. Back then he entered Singapore 🇸🇬 , opened accounts here etc. Are Singapore or Cyprus 🇨🇾 to be blamed if he later fell foul of the law?
🔸 A “#goldenpassport” is not just granted in exchange for an investment or a donation. Many other conditions, in particular a clean criminal record, apply.
🔸 Canada 🇨🇦 , Germany 🇩🇪 and USA 🇺🇸 do not grant citizenship-by-investment. Like Singapore and the Philippines 🇵🇭 they only grant residency-by-investment (#RBI). After some years of #residency immigrants become eligible to apply for citizenship in these countries - regardless of whether they entered as investors, spouses, employees or under other categories.
🔸 Portugal 🇵🇹 has NOT announced that it is scrapping its popular golden visa programme. By the contrary: the Portuguese parliament has voted in July to keep the #GoldenVisa open for those who invest EUR 500k in certain investment funds. Only the #real estate option was scrapped.
🔸 Hard truth: The over 100 countries which the OECD (a biased, socialist organisation based in Paris with limited global legitimacy) says “offer some variation of CBI” include Singapore and the Philippines.
Tens of thousands of hard-working, upright investors have received residency and citizenship by investment though firms like my @ec_holdings. To attack such RCBI programs because of a few bad apples (who did not slip through a safety net but who became criminal AFTER approval) is like calling for the closure of the stock exchange just because there were some insider traders.
In order to uphold credibility and industry standards I suggest that next time @RaulDancel writes about #RCBI he gets an industry expert to fact check/proof read his report before publication. The omission of relevant facts also contributes to the confusion the readers. Properly managed RCBI is not problematic - but lack of freedom and opportunity is.
