The Nuclear Heat Exchanger Consortium is a collaboration between @uwmadison engineers & industry to research efficient, safer, more reliable nuclear energy.
Several graduate researchers are presenting their compact heat exchanger work to nuclear energy innovators and regulators today, at MPR Associates. One of many more steps to come toward viable advanced reactors.
Molten Salt Reactors are a hot topic among nuclear energy developers. Work started in the 1960's and today a number of start-up companies are working hard to commercialize these design once again. Find more information @ https://t.co/nWqMxDvgM5
PhD candidate Shaun Aakre closely watches the pressure gauge in anticipation of a heat exchanger rupture. This test will help CompRex, a Wisconsin-based company, to commercialize their compact devices in numerous industries.
The Nuclear Energy Innovation Capabilities Act of 2017 (#NEICA) became public law on September 28. The law includes provisions to accelerate U.S. advanced reactor development, including concepts that may use our compact heat exchangers!
@NHE_UW engineers are participating in ASME’s Boiler and
Pressure Vessel Code week committee meetings in Atlanta, GA! Included are
sessions on high temperature reactors, general nuclear design, and in-service
inspections.
NHE students doing hands-on experimental work! PhD candidate Ian Jentz(L) and undergraduate Erik Kernozek(R) lowering the cover back onto the Instron tensile testing machine hydraulic power unit after maintenance.
How do you examine a modern heat exchanger with a complicated geometry? Our research partners at EPRI are figuring it out. (BTW that is a real researcher hand. Not a hand model!)
#OnThisDay in 1955: Arco, Idaho, became the first town lit entirely by nuclear power from the BORAX-III reactor. ⚛️⚡💡
