As a dad of an ODU student athlete, the helplessness today was unimaginable. My sophomore daughter on the women’s lacrosse team was barricaded in the locker room with her teammates & Coach Theresa Walton during the shooting.
It wasn’t over-the-top chaos, but the quiet terror of those long pauses between replies crushed me. Coach Theresa’s calm demeanor was everything. keeping them together, stopping panic from taking over. Her quick thinking and level head made a real difference in that room. I’m so grateful for her.
The what-ifs still won’t leave me alone.
Pray for the victims, their families and the ODU community. College shouldn’t feel like this.
