Les hommes éprouvent du plaisir à voir un tricheur puni. Pas les femmes. Et ça explique pourquoi notre justice est en crise aujourd'hui.

Pour le comprendre, il faut lire l'étude de Singer et al., publiée dans Nature (Numéro 439, p. 466-469, 2006).

Cette étude a observé 32 volontaires (16 hommes et 16 femmes) pendant qu'ils regardaient des acteurs "justes" ou "injustes" (ayant triché) recevoir de légers chocs électriques.

Le résultat ?

Quand un joueur "juste" souffre, hommes et femmes activent les mêmes aires de la douleur empathique (fronto-insulaire et cortex cingulaire antérieur).

Jusqu'ici, rien d'anormal...

En revanche, lorsque c'est un joueur « injuste » qui souffre, les hommes ne montrent aucune empathie (pas d'activation des aires de la douleur), mais une bouffée d'activité dans le noyau accumbens, le centre de la récompense, le même qui s'allume pour la nourriture, le sexe ou la drogue.

Les femmes, elles, continuaient à montrer de l'empathie, même envers le tricheur qui souffrait et était sanctionné. La partie du cerveau dédiée au plaisir de la récompense ne montrait aucune activité.

En bref, le plaisir neurologique d'infliger une punition et l'intensité de ce désir sont constitutifs du "comportement juste". A l'inverse, leur absence explique l'impossibilité, quasiment biologique, de rendre la justice.

Voilà pourquoi la justice est dysfonctionnelle aujourd'hui.

@freekvdvelde @bartschols Je moet twee zaken onderscheiden bij type slachtoffers: afrekeningen (geweld tussen personen met een link) en zinloos geweld. Bij die eerste zullen extra-europese mannen oververtegenwoordigd zijn, in de tweede zullen vrouwen (allen) en autochtone mannen oververtegenwoordigd zijn.

You want to know what's worse than incompetence? Knowing the truth and burying it anyway.

They knew. That's the bit nobody is saying. They knew.

Two days after Henry died Hampshire Police secretly recorded Digwa in a police van speaking Punjabi to his brother. Digwa admitted stabbing Henry. Discussed claiming self defence. Made zero mention of racial abuse. Not one word.

Hampshire Police had that tape.

They knew Digwa was lying about the racist attack. They had the evidence. They had his own words and then tried to smear Henry as the aggressor anyway.

Three days after his death their statement read “it was reported two men had been assaulted by an unknown man.” Henry was the unknown man. The boy bleeding out on the street. They flipped it.

Family complained. Statement changed. Then police told the family their NEXT update would again infer Henry was the initial aggressor. His family had to fight them a second time. While grieving their murdered son.

Then during the trial Hampshire tried to issue a statement telling the public to stop talking about it online. Calling it disinformation. The CPS had to step in. Told them they were about to collapse their own murder case.

This is the force that handcuffed a dying boy. Missed the murder weapon twice. Had a secret tape proving the killer lied. And still tried to bury Henry's name.

That's not incompetence. That's a machine protecting itself. At the expense of a dead boy's reputation and three officers are still on active duty. Not suspended. Treated as witnesses. To their own actions.

Hampshire Police didn't just fail Henry on that street. They kept failing him for six months after he died.

Tijdens mijn correspondentschap in Beiroet, viel het mij vooral op hoe wreed het Syrische bezettingsleger was. De Libanezen waren doodsbang voor de Syrische soldaten met een IQ lager dan hun schoenmaat (hun hersens pasten op een theelepeltje): meedogenloze rovende, verkrachtende en moordende boerenkinkels van het type dat we nu regelmatig zien stralen in Opsporing Verzocht: de exotische nobele wilde waar de zingende huisvrouwtjes in Apeldoorn en andere GroenLinkse voldioten een natte voeg van krijgen.
