Journalists in the 5th Cohort of the @Agroecology_Sch have been taken through the Agroecology Learning Journey at Alwana Natural Farm in Nakasuku, Mukono district.
They engaged in a hands-on approach to different agroecological practices, from learning how to make biofertilizers and biopesticides, to actively participating in real eco-farming activities on the farm.
Now, equipped with lived knowledge and compelling content, these communicators return to their platforms as storytellers of change, ready to amplify agroecology as a powerful alternative to industrial agriculture and a pathway to food sovereignty for communities across Uganda and beyond.

Bagaga Ronald, ESAFF Ugandaโs Programs Manager, urged journalists to highlight how land tenure security is the backbone of agroecology.
"Women face customary barriers despite equality in LAW. Our 1995 Constitution & 2013 Land Policy say everyone is equal in owning & accessing natural resources, but the reality speaks otherwise. We need to go agroecology, but land must be secure. We canโt practice agroecology under tenure insecurities. We need to craft inspiring stories that spark justice, shift mindsets & drive change"- he noted

Happening Now: We are hosting a training for journalists on reporting on Land Rights and Agroecology at Esella Country Hotel in Kampala. In Uganda, where shrinking soils, land grabs, and erratic rains threaten to push the countryโs food systems to the brink, training journalists to report on land rights is not just about storytelling. It is about survival.
A well-trained press can unravel the tangled web between secure land rights and food sovereignty, exposing injustices that choke small-scale farmers, while highlighting agroecology as the lifeline for Ugandaโs fragile food systems.
When journalists learn to frame land not merely as property but as the heartbeat of Agroecology and transforming communities, they engage in public debate, hold power to account, and rally society behind farming that restores both dignity and soil health.

Journalists have the power to highlight issues that spark public attention and action. We have inaugurated the 5th Cohort of the Agroecology School for Journalists & Communicators, commencing a 12-week immersive journey into understanding #agroecology.
This program equips journalists with in-depth knowledge to effectively report on and advocate for sustainable agricultural practices.
Over the next 12 weeks, participants will explore agroecologyโs core principles and engage directly with small-scale farmers, reshaping how agricultural stories are told and learn how agroecology offers a path to balance tradition and modern diets, nurturing people, the planet, and the right to food.
