Busy vis mig at Ballard Down this morning, highlights 206 Redpoll,
1282 Siskin, 1160 Swallow, 86 House Martin, 670 Goldfinch, 2 Brambling, 16 Redwing. Just 35 Crossbill, was hoping for more
Cirl Bunting the highlight of a speculative vis mig at Glebelands, Ballard this morning. Also 14 Bullfinch (inc a flock of 7), 3 Redpoll, 104 Goldfinch, 26 Chaffinch, 2 Mistle Thrush and a Greenfinch @harbourbirds
Ring Ouzel the highlight at Glebelands Ballard this am. Vis mig still dominated by hirundines with 1020 birds past, 60/40 Swallow. 417 Goldfinch, 53 alba and 3 flava wags, 5 Reed Bunting and a Jay. Only a handful of Siskin, have had thousands in some years! @harbourbirds
A genuine hirundine spectacle at Ballard Down this morning, with a total of 15,680 birds moving through by 10.30, including 10,810 House Martin. Also a late Swift, juv Hobby, 3 Sparrowhawk and 2 Spot Flys making their way north east @harbourbirds
A 2 hour before dawn start at Glebelands, Ballard Down for some noc mig. No target birds but Knot and Redshank were new for the patch. Otherwise a few Tree Pipit. A few more during the vis mig plus 5 flava and an early Grey Wag. Lots of Chiffs and a Painted Lady @harbourbirds
First noc-mig session from the house (Stoborough) for some time. A very busy night for waders, 8 species, the highlights a flock of Sanderling, a Turnstone and Grey Plover. Also Sandwich Tern and an early Wigeon. No hoped for Ortolan though sadly @harbourbirds
Crippling views of a Hawfinch that just flew point blank over my head! On the slopes above Glebelands copse. Annoyingly had just put camera back in bag for cycle back to car. Still buzzing though, an amazing looking bird! @harbourbirds
Ballard Down this morning: 4 Yellow Wag, 3 Tree Pipit, 2 Siskin, Lesser Whitethroat and 12 Willow Warbler. Later in the morning very pleased with a singing Wood Warbler in a small wood at the southern edge of Hartland Moor @harbourbirds
An odd cast at Glebelands, Ballard this morning included a Nightjar flying across Swanage Bay, the presumed same bird later heard calling on the down. Greylag Goose, Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron high south, 5 Siskin, 2 Wheatear, Tree Pipit and a Yellowhammer over @harbourbirds
