The problem with discourse now is that an individual who has a strong opinion about a particular subject is treated as having equal value in a discussion with somebody who has factual knowledge of that subject.

Take the discussion between. A former head of The world trade organisation and a Brexit supporting Tory MP as an example: the bloke who knew everything there is to know about the WTO explained calmly and logically why Britain would find it very difficult to trade on WTO rules alone, with evidence of how the organisation actually works, and Tory just said, well I don't agree, we need to be more optimistic. Because apparently feelings are just as valid as actual facts.

That debate was years ago, but the desire to give Creedence to views that are based on complete another nonsense is indeed deeply damaging.

And of course, I'm not claiming to be an expert on everything, and there are many things I simply don't have an opinion on because I don't know enough.
We need to make knowledge cool again.
