Some professional news: I’ve joined Axel Springer as VP, Head of US Communications based in NYC. It’s a consequential time in media, and I'm glad to be working with so many journalists I respect and admire. Reporters, especially if you cover media, hit me up!

“Under Sheikholeslami’s leadership, overall subscription revenue has increased by about 50% since 2021.
She also achieved a rare feat in journalism: Politico has expanded its scope but maintained its cultural cachet.”

Haun Ventures CEO @katie_haun says we’re entering a new economy defined by three structural shifts: financial rails, new asset classes, and the agentic future.
"We're taking this new fund of $1B and backing founders who are building what we're calling the new economy. When I say the new economy, I'm thinking about three structural shifts we're seeing right now."
"The first is new financial rails and infrastructure. Think companies like Erebor. Gone are bankers hours and wire cut-offs. I mean, you're talking about global from day one, 24/7. This is a bank that opened on a Sunday."
"Second are new assets and markets. It started as stablecoins, but we're now talking about tokenizing the stock market. You see companies like BlackRock, Coinbase, and Robinhood doing that. But it's also opened up new markets like prediction and perpetual markets."
"The third structural shift is what we're calling the agentic future. It's not just AI broadly, it's where AI and crypto intersect. We're talking about building for a world where the end user is not necessarily a human of a financial product or service, but is a computer or an agent. How does that impact things like privacy? How does it impact things like provenance and trust? What form will they use? How will agents pay for things or subscribe to services?"
Today we’re announcing $1 billion in new funds to back the bold founders shaping the next era of finance and technology.
I’ve been following the flow of assets my entire career and have never seen a more dynamic time. Financial infrastructure is being rebuilt from the ground up, new assets and markets are emerging, and an agentic economy is developing as AI agents begin to transact on behalf of humans. These areas, among others, are what will define the coming years as we deploy these new funds.
We’re excited for what’s ahead, and wrote about our thesis in the post below.
“Roger Goodell has created the most valuable sports rights in the world … everybody is trying to get a piece of it,”says Axel Springer CEO (and Netflix board member) Mathias Döpfner.”
For the past few months, I’ve been talking to people who know Roger Goodell well to build a picture of what the NFL’s media partners are really in for as they prepare to battle over the most valuable property on TV.

NEW: I spoke to Politico's @DashaBurns ahead of her new role as its first Global Anchor — the latest example of DC outlets trying to turn their scoop-driven reporters into multiplatform stars.
“It’s the ability to be on your TV, in your ear, in your inbox,” she told me.
