- United didn't sign a left-back on deadline day to keep the path clear for Lewis Hall in the future.

- There was a point in pre-season that Mount was performing and some at United felt Lewis Hall would be needed more than a 3rd midfielder.

- United believe they have cover for Shaw in Mazraoui, Dalot, Martinez, Baleba and Dorgu.

- Louis Page had turned down Arsenal to join United and the situation will be revisited.

- There is a theory at United that buying several less expensive players rather than one standout will have a bigger impact on the squad.

- United feel this restrained approach is necessary due to the financial picture following two years without Champions League revenues, costly recruitment misses, and long-term Glazer debt.

@subzscout I think we’re assessing the market as much as anything else. I assume we waited with the major money for potential signings that might become available like for example, Tchouameni, and once that went cold we sort of got stuck trying to figure out what to do.

Don’t think Bruno’s far off them in terms of ability, but unfortunately, and unfairly in a way, trophies become a factor when the talent level is that high and close.

@FPLfrasier He’d undoubtedly be someone a lot of lesser sides would like. Physical, back and forth, odd wonder goal.

He’d start for probably something like 8-9 teams itl. Villa, Bmouth, Cov, Palace, Fulham, Hull, Ipswich, Forest. Arguments for others too, especially as a RW instead.

LW when we sit back, he offers extra support for a LB, then breaks forward.

Or like you said, LB in a display where we dominate possession.

@YorkieRed_Jojo Seen how important a top LB is, any time Shaw hasn’t been fit we’ve consistently failed to qualify for the CL. Makes sense to spend big on his probably most ideal successor
