Since a lot of you just found Watti, here's a quick 3-month update :)
It now runs on ROS 2, has RGB + depth vision, its own animation editor, and a fully 3D-printed body.
I spent most of the time making the movements feel more expressive. Next up: more autonomous behavior, interaction, and eventually teaching it to jump.
Instead of another technical demo, I made a little story :)
Since there are more people coming here from the $WATTI community, I just want to make one thing clear.
I did not create or launch the coin. Watti existed long before it, and I was already building and sharing the project publicly before any of this happened.
My focus is the same as it was before - building the actual robot.
I really appreciate the community that has formed around Watti, and any creator rewards I receive from $WATTI will go back into the development of the robot. I'll also be transparent about how that money is used.
Whatever happens with the coin, development of Watti continues. I have a lot planned for this project and I'm not going anywhere :)
Most people see Watti as an animated character, but there's quite a bit of engineering hiding underneath.
The software, motion control and hardware all work together to make those animations repeatable - currently with around 0.03 mm of positional variation across repeated movements.
Personality on the outside, engineering underneath :)
@DegenFinalboss Not for sale yet 😅 I'm focusing on finishing the open source version first, but I'd love to make it easier for people to get one eventually.
Hey everyone! I honestly didn't expect to find a whole little community around Watti here 😄
Thanks for the support and for taking an interest in the project. I'm still actively working on the lamp, so there's a lot more to come :)
First post here, so I guess I should introduce my latest project.
This is Watti — a robotic lamp I've been building from scratch.
It runs on ROS 2, has its own animation system, RGB-D vision… and apparently plays pool now 🎱
The project is still pre-release, but I'm documenting it here:

More experiments coming soon 🤖💡
