I believe the greatest abuse within our media landscape comes not from ordinary members of the public, but from the mainstream media organisations themselves. If the Government is serious about regulation, it should begin by ensuring that public service broadcasters such as GB News, the BBC, ITV and Sky News are held to the highest standards of impartiality and accuracy, particularly in relation to their political editors and the content they publish.
The same principle should apply to sections of the national press. Newspapers such as the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and Daily Express too often appear willing to sacrifice balance and factual accuracy in favour of sensationalism. Narratives are manufactured, speculation is presented as fact, and individuals, whether ministers or private citizens, are subjected to relentless campaigns until the weight of public pressure becomes overwhelming.
Before seeking to curtail the ability of ordinary citizens to respond on social media, your department should first address the standards of those media organisations that shape public debate on a daily basis. The Government has both the authority and the responsibility to ensure that those with the greatest influence are held properly to account.
I have already written to you on these matters. As the minister responsible for this department, your response was profoundly disappointing. Public life inevitably attracts criticism. If you are unwilling to engage with robust scrutiny or withstand legitimate criticism, then you should seriously question whether you are suited to hold ministerial office.
Freedom of the press comes with responsibilities. When media organisations cross the line by abandoning accuracy, fairness and impartiality, they must be held accountable. Those with the greatest influence over public opinion should also bear the greatest responsibility for exercising that influence wisely.

If political money linked to Reform UK or Nigel Farage was paid in Tether/USDT, the issue is not simply that crypto was used.
The issue is whether the public record shows the real route of the money.
Nigel Farage has been pushing a crypto-friendly agenda.
So if money linked to the crypto world was involved, transparency cannot stop at:
“a £5m donation to Farage and a £9m donation to ReformUK was made.”
The questions are obvious:
Was it declared correctly?
Was it valued correctly?
Was the true source identifiable?
Which wallet sent it?
Which bank or payment provider received it?
Was it converted before it arrived?
Harborne’s £9m donation to Reform UK was declared as cash.
It was accepted on 1 August 2025, reported on 29 October 2025, and published on 3 December 2025.
https://t.co/Zb1DDqS2kQ
Reform UK only announced it had opened a Lloyds bank account on 5 December 2025.
So the question is obvious:
How did £9m reach Reform UK before that account was opened?
If Tether was involved, the scandal would not just be “crypto”.
The scandal would be whether the public record hides the real payment trail.
Because from a UK tax and reporting perspective, stablecoins are not simply cash. They are cryptoassets - not cash.
That means valuation, disposal, source, wallet trail and conversion route all matter.

🔥 Europe is starting to push Palantir out.
Things are looking rough for Palantir in Europe…
…as they are increasingly seen as a danger to sovereignty with a high risk of structural lock-in and major ethical concerns.
I thought it might help you to hear this from somebody who doesn’t have a horse in this race, just to help you understand the level of unbridled self-enrichment going on every day as Americans struggle with affordability.
It is truly sickening

You’re daily reminder Nigel Farage wants to
- leave the ECHR
- repeal the Equality Act
- Strip back workers rights
- Lift restrictions on exploitative zero-hours contracts
- repeal the Renters’ Rights Act which abolishes “no fault evictions”
PLEASE DON’T FALL FOR IT
@TedUrchin@andyburnham@Keir_Starmer@UKLabour I agree with you Ted. Burnham is a backstabbing weasel who was rejected twice and ran away. KS revived the Labour Party; without him Labour would not have got into power. I can’t believe the short-sighted stupidity of people like Mahmood.
@Miatsf Burnham is just rehashing what KS was in the process of delivering. If you think this is all new stuff you haven’t been paying attention for the last 2 years. Who made the Labour Party electable? Certainly not Burnham. He stood for leader twice, was rejected and ran away.
Richard, keep going !
Most people are working flat out just to stay afloat.
They expect MPs to give the job their full attention, not treat Parliament as a platform for outside earnings.
This isn’t about envy. It’s about trust, priorities and public service.
Good on Richard for pushing for it .
Kemi Badenoch at #PMQs today quoted Russia's defence spending at 10% and used to it to attack Starmer.
This is ... untrue.
From SIPRI's latest fact sheet, Russia's military spending is 7.5% of GDP.
She also claimed that Germany had risen to 3.7%. Another lie.
This year Germany increased to 2.8% with plans to hit 3.5% by 2029.
So many made up numbers when the government in which she served, cut defence spending rather than increased it.
We should not have to suffer perpetual lies from our politicians that need fact checking constantly.

The King in the North and the Art of the Remake
There is a massive difference between doing your job as a regional Mayor and running a coordinated backroom operation to hijack the credit for it.
The actual engine of this entire devolution rollout was designed, written and published by the government at the end of 2024.
What we are looking at is not some sudden burst of original inspiration.
It is a masterclass in political marketing. By slapping flashy new stickers like 'Manchesterism' and 'No 10 North' onto existing legislation, Andy Burnham has managed to package a government document into a personal manifesto.
It makes you wonder how the media and the public can be so completely blind to the dates.
Burnham walks out acting like the King in the North, trading on the fact that he has a bit more charisma than Starmer, while delivering a speech that is essentially a glossy remake of a two year-old White Paper.
He prepackaged the whole thing to trigger a wave of instant excitement and sell a version of hope that he did not even invent.
Perhaps back in 2024, before the election, Manchester and Andy really were the inspiration that helped shape this policy, and I am not disputing that at all.
But if that is the case, why are we not talking about the actual government document and comparing Andy's speech to it, when this is something Starmer and his deputy Angela Rayner publicly published in December 2024?
Hold on a minute. Is it really too much to ask for journalists to do the basic fact-checking I have just done this morning?
