You gotta watch this speech from Rep Justin Jones as Tennessee Republicans attempt to expel him and two others for simply standing with students demanding gun safety. Republicans know they are on the losing side of history. This is proof

@DrBradJohnson Now as a 1:1 private specialist, I find it troubling that my differently abled kiddos show me HW they are clueless about. Inclusion w/o proper support is a joke. The “inclusion “ movement turned into excuse to hire less specialists and shorten the continuum
@DrBradJohnson HW is PRACTICE, I used to give kiddos individual worksheets targeting basic fluency skills and or EF skills - it depended on the classroom size/needs of kids and the subject. Nothing overwhelming. I was Sped, but at one point I had 26 w mixed abilities and IEPs in one room.
@SpeakerMcCarthy My mom served for many years in the PTA when my brother and I were in school.
My wife was very involved in helping our kid get the most out of LA public schools.
I've volunteered as a classroom aide.
This is none of that. This is hobbling public schools with a creepy agenda.
@NoLieWithBTC There are obviously lots of folks on here who are clueless about 6th grade classrooms- maybe YOUR kid can handle it- most can’t. Also, principals absolutely do not know everything that is shown to kids- so firing this person was WRONG. My bet is the teacher was new.
@NoLieWithBTC I r ead it was an art teacher? I would NEVER show this to 6th graders without parent notice (consent/opt out) honestly I just would choose another statue. 6th graders can’t handle David w any level of maturity. Firing principal is wrong though!
@GiftedTawk That as a Sped diva w over 20 years in 5 districts in 2 states , I could leave the system, set up a mini resource room in my home to privately teach IEP/ 504 kiddos and make the same money w freedom to use 100% of my knowledge. Game changer for sure.
@MartinOdimaJr In Hillsborough County they don’t rule out SLD or ASD before they throw a kid into a self-contained EBD room. I recall IEP when I said “ I really teach a severe SLD classroom” and the psych quickly retorted”No you don’t! They don’t have SLD!” Ugh.
@FixingEducation In S.Tampa it was every day- sometimes more. I got in the middle of a few - good times (sarcasm) If you know you know. There needs to be more of us- not less.
@teachcrap Also they are covered under different laws- one is ADA (504) and the other is IDEA (IEP) . Many don’t “mix them”. Honestly it’s easier sometimes though. I’m a sped diva- I found many 504s to need IEPs
@teachcrap Without the presence of a detailed physical need, a 504 best practice is 1-3 pages , it should only address ONE issue wh IMPACTS LIFE- delineating teachers/school responsibilities (accommodations ) parent’s responsibilities and student responsibilities
