Two days ago, the government announced a ban on Hezbollah’s security and military activities. Yet almost immediately after the decision was issued, Hezbollah began launching rockets and drones toward Israel in a direct and blatant challenge to the authority and sovereignty of the state.

So where is the state? And where is its decision? How can Hezbollah’s ministers remain in the government while their party openly defies and disregards the government’s own decision? This open rebellion against a Cabinet decision leaves only one clear step that cannot be delayed: the immediate dismissal of Hezbollah’s ministers from the government, because those who turn against the state’s decisions cannot be partners in governing it.

What is happening today in Hazmieh is further proof of this blatant challenge. Hezbollah members have imposed a security cordon around the hotel that was struck and are preventing the municipal police from approaching. What kind of state allows a militia to cordon off a site within its own territory and prevent legitimate authorities from carrying out their duties?
