FG DEEPENS DIGITAL EDUCATION DRIVE, SIGNS LANDMARK AGREEMENT TO EXPAND AI TRAINING FOR UNITY COLLEGE TEACHERS

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping Nigerian teachers with future-ready digital skills through the nationwide rollout of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Teacher Capacity Development Programme across all Federal Unity Colleges.

The initiative, implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education through its Education Support Services Department in partnership with ICEDT Consult Limited, follows the successful completion of a pilot phase in six Federal Unity Colleges representing the six geopolitical zones. The programme is designed to strengthen teachers' digital competencies, improve lesson planning, enhance classroom instruction and promote the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in education.

Speaking at the signing of the Terms of Reference in Abuja, the Director of Education Support Services, Mr. Gabriel O. Amudipe, described the programme as a strategic investment in teacher professionalism and the future of education. He urged all stakeholders to maintain high implementation standards and ensure effective monitoring and quality assurance throughout the nationwide rollout.

Expected to benefit approximately 11,700 teachers, the initiative will enhance classroom practice, improve learning outcomes and prepare students with the knowledge and digital skills required for the 21st-century economy.

The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to working with strategic partners to modernise Nigeria's education system and deliver inclusive, technology-driven and globally competitive education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at the 2026 World Population Day commemoration in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, said education remains the most effective tool for equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and opportunities needed to achieve their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Professor Ahmad noted that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Ministry of Education is implementing reforms to improve foundational learning, reduce the number of out-of-school children, strengthen teacher quality, expand Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), promote digital literacy, ensure safe learning environments and advance girl-child education.

She called for stronger collaboration among government, development partners, communities and other stakeholders to address barriers facing young people and unlock Nigeria's demographic dividend.

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening teacher professionalism, institutional capacity and digital transformation as key drivers of improved learning outcomes and sustainable education reforms across Nigeria.

Speaking at the 2026 Three-Day Retreat of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, said quality teachers and strong institutions remain the foundation of national development. She noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) are advancing reforms to improve foundational learning, strengthen teacher quality, enhance governance and accelerate digital transformation across the education sector.

Professor Ahmad urged TRCN to continue promoting professional standards, ethical practice and continuous teacher development while leveraging technology to improve communication, data management and service delivery. She also called for stronger collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, TRCN, the Nigeria Union of Teachers and other stakeholders to equip teachers with the digital competencies required for 21st-century education.

NIGERIA'S EDUCATION TRANSFORMATION BEGINS WITH DATA, PARTNERSHIP AND BOLD LEADERSHIP, SAYS ALAUSA

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria's education sector through stronger collaboration with state governments, data-driven planning and sustainable reforms that improve learning outcomes nationwide.

Speaking at the Executive Retreat for Honourable Commissioners of Education, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, said effective education transformation requires strong Federal-State partnerships, reliable education data and bold leadership. He stressed that the deployment of the National Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) and the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) will strengthen planning, accountability, resource allocation and evidence-based decision-making across the sector.

The Minister also urged states to take advantage of the World Bank-supported HOPE Education Programme, which provides US$552 million in performance-based financing to improve education governance, teacher quality and learning outcomes. He encouraged participating states to complete all required implementation processes to access the available funding.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) remains focused on expanding foundational learning, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), STEM education, digital learning and sustainable education financing.

The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to working closely with state governments, development partners and stakeholders to build an inclusive, resilient and globally competitive education system that equips every Nigerian learner with the knowledge and skills required for national development.

Data Takes Centre Stage As Dr Alausa Visits Kuje Schools
To Assess Learning Outcomes

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, along with Honourable Minister of State for Education Prof Suwaiba Said Ahmad concluded a two-day working visit to Kano State, reaffirming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda is driving significant transformation in Nigeria's education sector through strategic partnerships with state governments. The Minister commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for allocating 32 per cent of the state's 2026 budget to education, describing it as a strong demonstration of commitment to human capital development.

During the visit, Dr Alausa commissioned a renovated solar-powered digital e-Library at Federal Government College, Kano, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to revitalising abandoned e-Library projects nationwide, and endorsed the Public-Private Partnership land swap initiative aimed at improving educational infrastructure.

The visit also highlighted major investments in teacher development and expanded access to quality education. the Ministers witnessed the presentation of appointment letters to 8,588 education personnel, directed the immediate operationalisation of the Bilingual School in Ungogo ahead of its September 2026 opening, and announced plans for additional bilingual schools. He also inspected ongoing education projects, pledged Federal support for their completion, and commended a student's Artificial Intelligence innovation for further development. Education at the Heart of Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda as FG Unveils Five Flagship Programmes to Accelerate Human Capital Development

The Federal Government has reaffirmed that education remains the cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda with the launch of five flagship World Bank-backed programmes designed to accelerate human capital development, reduce poverty, strengthen healthcare, improve governance and expand economic opportunities across Nigeria.

At the launch in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described education as Nigeria's greatest investment and highlighted the HOPE-EDU Programme, a transformative investment of approximately $552.18 million, jointly funded by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

The programme will directly benefit nearly 30 million children, support the professional development of 500,000 public primary school teachers, improve teaching and learning in more than 65,000 public primary schools across all 36 states and the FCT, and strengthen foundational literacy, numeracy and education management systems through a results-based financing model.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing strong policy leadership, effective coordination and sustained oversight to ensure the successful implementation of the programme as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

FG INTENSIFIES NATIONWIDE ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN, URGES STUDENTS TO SPEAK UP, STRENGTHENS SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating bullying in schools by intensifying the implementation of the National Policy on Anti-Bullying to ensure every Nigerian child learns in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.

The renewed commitment was reinforced during a sensitisation workshop organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The initiative supports the vision of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, to strengthen school safety, promote students' well-being and ensure secure learning environments nationwide.

Speaking at the event, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, represented by Deputy Executive Secretary Hon. Olajuwon Rasaq Akinyemi, urged students to embrace the campaign message, "If you see something, say something," encouraging victims and witnesses to report bullying without fear.

The Ministry noted that sustained awareness campaigns and stronger implementation of the National Policy on Anti-Bullying have already contributed to a decline in reported bullying cases across schools.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening stakeholder collaboration, improving reporting mechanisms and ensuring effective implementation of anti-bullying measures to protect learners and promote safe, inclusive and learner-friendly schools in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

FG, UNESCO, JAPAN DRIVE DIGITAL TEACHER TRAINING, TARGET 2,000 EDUCATORS, EMPOWER FEMALE SCHOOL LEADERS

The Federal Government has commenced a three-day Master Training Workshop to strengthen teacher professional development through mobile-based learning, with the programme expected to reach at least 2,000 teachers and school leaders nationwide, while placing special emphasis on empowering female educators.

Organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with the Government of Japan, UNESCO-IICBA, the Pan-African University (PAU) and Castalia Co. Ltd. under the Pan-African Virtual and Electronic University (PAVEU) Initiative, the workshop equips master trainers with digital skills to improve access to continuous professional development.

Representing the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, the Director of Colleges of Education, Dr. Uchenna Uba, described the initiative as a major milestone in advancing teacher quality, digital innovation and improved learning outcomes under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).

Participants will receive training in digital literacy, Artificial Intelligence in Education, gender-responsive pedagogy, mental health, learner-centred teaching and the GOKU Mobile Learning Platform.

Japan is investing approximately US$1 million in the initiative, while partners presented 40 tablets and two edge computing devices to support nationwide implementation. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to deliver inclusive, equitable and quality education for every Nigerian child.

FG DEBUNKS FAKE REPORT OF ATTACK ON FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GIRLS' COLLEGE, MONGUNO, REASSURES PARENTS OF STUDENTS' SAFETY

The Federal Ministry of Education has categorically refuted reports alleging that Federal Government Girls' College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked, describing the claims as false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among parents, guardians and the general public.

The Ministry confirmed that FGGC, Monguno remains safe and secure, with all students, staff and boarding facilities fully protected and accounted for. Academic, boarding and other school activities continue uninterrupted in a peaceful environment.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, reaffirmed that the safety, security and welfare of learners in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority. He noted that FGGC, Monguno operates under robust security arrangements to safeguard students, staff and school facilities.

The Minister further clarified that no student of FGGC, Monguno was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the school. He explained that the affected individuals were remedial students outside the college, while the Borno State Government is taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.

The Ministry urged the media, bloggers and social media users to verify information through official sources before publication and advised the public to disregard the false report in its entirety.

FG, UNESCO, AFRICAN UNION LAUNCH MOBILE LEARNING INITIATIVE TO STRENGTHEN TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA) and the Pan African University (PAU), has commenced a three-day Master Training Programme to strengthen teacher professional development through innovative mobile learning technologies.

The programme, themed "Empowering Female Teachers and School Leaders through Integrating Mobile-based Learning in the Pan-African Virtual and Electronic University (PAVEU) Initiative," is being held in Abuja from 21 to 23 July 2026.

Funded by the Government of Japan, the UNESCO-IICBA initiative targets five African countries Algeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria and South Sudan and seeks to expand access to quality continuous professional development, particularly for female teachers and school leaders, through flexible and technology-driven learning.

The initiative leverages mobile technology to overcome barriers such as time constraints, geographical limitations and inadequate infrastructure, enabling educators to access quality learning resources anytime and anywhere through a low-data, offline-friendly platform.

The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to improving teacher quality through digital innovation, noting that accessible professional development is essential to strengthening learning outcomes and building a resilient, inclusive and future-ready education system.

FG HAILS SUCCESSFUL NECO CBT ROLLOUT, ASSURES NO STUDENT WILL BE LEFT BEHIND

The Federal Government has commended the successful rollout of the National Examinations Council (NECO) Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), describing it as a major milestone in strengthening examination integrity and advancing digital transformation in education.

Speaking after monitoring the examination in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exercise, noting the absence of technical disruptions and the positive response from candidates. She said the CBT format enhances examination credibility by randomising questions, reducing opportunities for malpractice and promoting merit-based assessment.

Professor Ahmad reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to expanding CBT nationwide through a gradual and inclusive approach, assuring Nigerians that no student would be disadvantaged due to inadequate infrastructure or limited access to technology. She disclosed that the Ministry is working with the National Assembly, state governments and private sector partners to strengthen nationwide CBT infrastructure.

NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, revealed that 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 SSCE, including over 700,000 female candidates, and announced that results are expected by the first week of September 2026 or earlier.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology to improve examination integrity, learning outcomes and build a globally competitive education system.
