#OnThisDay in 1988 the IRA murdered John Larmour, 42. Married father of 1. Ice cream man shot working in his brother’s parlour. 1 ordered ice cream while other stood by door. As off duty RUC turned to serve customer he was shot. 2 customers injured https://t.co/hZkitJUlgZ #OTD
That respect and tolerance in the “new Ireland” laid bare for all to see. It was always a nonsense. The events of the last two weeks fully demonstrated how anyone with a hint of British/ unionist identity would be treated. The tetchy tweets from Colum Eastwood expose the myth.
Sinn Féin are progressive, Eóin?
Glorifying terrorism, honouring convicted terrorists, encouraging people to break the law and standing alongside those convicted of murder.
Is that Alliance’s definition of progressivism?
We have witnessed a baptism of republican hate this week. Carla Lockhart verbally abused and spat on. Diane Dodds intimidated. Jamie Bryson threatened. Cries of “Orange Basterds” and “don’t let these f*ckers* down the road.” The lid has flew off exposing the worst of Republicanism. And to their shame, not one “New Irelander” has had a single word to say about it.
Unionist politicians and representatives were spat at on their way out of court. A legal firm has had to walk away after receiving threats for representing Orangemen. Republicans hurled abuse at children driving past Edgarstown festival. IRA songs are played during an illegal road block. All from those saying “No Going Back.”
Sinn Fein are a cocktail of contradictions. A myriad of myths. Their words of respect, equality and inclusion have no actual meaning. No substance. They rehearse a lexicon of honeyed words, angry accusations and push a victim narrative based on fabrications. All they have is a chorus of shallow soundbites which they use as a dog whistle to their electorate, deflecting from their own inadequacy, to demonise their opponents. They deliver nothing but division. Offer nothing but hostility. And are the primary obstacle to an equal society for everyone.
'Anybody in Northern Ireland who is not a naive fool has always known what Sinn Fein is. The invisibility of ordinary, decent nationalism during the events last week, was more shocking and depressing.' https://t.co/OLRTjjDPj8
Whatever your thoughts on the Drumcree dispute, one thing is for sure: the “Ireland of Equals” myth of a ‘United Ireland’ has been totally demolished. Any notion that a ‘New Ireland’ would accommodate unionist identity and culture has, quite frankly, been obliterated.
Singing "my old man's a Provo" from the stage on Garvaghy Road is absolutely disgusting.
This is the community supposedly living in fear.
Yet, they appear happy enough to celebrate an organisation which murdered the innocent and created genuine fear throughout our country.
The hatred shown by people like Mary Lou McDonald and Michelle O'Neill and their mob towards Orange neightbours, the sickening venom against Jews, and the insane toleration of Islamism has exhausted my small remaining store of charity for the racism and sectarianism that is now rampant in my native country.

Since the Drumcree decision republicans and nationalists have revealed what lies behind the honeyed words about a “new Ireland”: contempt for unionist people and culture. Their venom and abuse shows there’s no shared future on offer. Northern Ireland’s is safe only in the UK
That new Ireland is unraveling fast. Amounts to cheap talk in an echo chamber. The Parades Commission made a lawful determination. It was tested in the courts and all challenges thrown out. Respect the law even if you can’t respect Orange traditions and culture.
Ireland’s left said nothing when the Irish cricket team played Afghanistan, a country where women are treated like animals and gays are put to death. Yet when the football team played Israel, they went psycho. What hypocritical bigots, says Brendan O’Neill

Philip Brett did not hold back and every word is true , it's about time unionism opened their eyes , SF are ridiculous been breaking the law for years .
The largest nationalist party in Northern Ireland commemorates sectarian killers and eulogises Nazi collaborators. I'm not sure it's Protestants who are struggling to confront their past.
So up at Stormont today MLAs and Ministers who all flagrantly broke the law yesterday will debate laws which the rest of us are expected to abide by??? What a farce. Completely unsustainable.
She refuses to criticise @moneillsf for breaking the law and participating in an unlawful obstruction. She makes no reference to the role of the law and the courts in the governance of Northern Ireland. And her use of the word “community” in the singular is partisan.
