It is essential for patient safety that patients undergoing cosmetic, or any other surgical procedure, are treated by surgeons who have been trained, not just in the procedure, but in recognising and treating the complications and sequelae of surgery in general and the procedure.

CBS STATEMENT ON JAMES GILBERT

Oxford transplant surgeon James Gilbert is eligible to return to work this month after serving only a one-year suspension — an MPTS sanction for sexually harassing female colleagues over a period of 13 years.

His case echoes the concerning findings of research which found 23.9% of sanctions involving sexual misconduct were more lenient than GMC recommendations, and just 35% resulted in full erasure.

@bbc It’s such a shame it’s taken almost 50yrs for a senior neurosurgeon to realise he didn’t walk on water. I am afraid to say, it’s almost pathetic, but I am afraid that attitude is almost certainly alive and well now.
