18 years ago today, Lady Gaga released her debut album, The Fame.
One of the most influential and best-selling albums of all time, The Fame spawned four smash hits, won two Grammys, and became the biggest album in the history of Billboard's Top Dance Albums chart.
2008: The Fame;
2018: A Star Is Born;
2025: MAYHEM.
Billboard names Lady Gaga’s “towering take” on the United States’ National Anthem (“The Star-Spangled Banner”) at the 2016 Super Bowl as one of the all-time best performances of the song.
The publication ranked it second to Whitney Houston’s rendition at the Super Bowl in 1991.

21 years ago today, Rafael Nadal won his first (of 14!) career French Open singles title 👏
He became the first teenager to win a men's Grand Slam event (19 years, 2 days) since Pete Sampras won the US Open in 1990 (19 years, 28 days).
“When they come to tell us that the final (RG 2020) will be played indoors, we wonder how we’re going to tell Rafa. His response was:
‘I don’t care, it doesn’t change anything, I’m going to win this match.’
Rafa had never said such a thing to me before a match.”

With MAYHEM, Lady Gaga reminded the world what a fully committed era actually looks like. She was everywhere: hosting SNL, delivering a career-defining Coachella headlining set, staging an historic concert at Copacabana that broke the world record for most attendees for a female performer, sitting down for interviews, touring the world on one of the biggest and most in-demand treks in recent memory, releasing smash singles, and weaving herself into film and television both as a performer and a writer. The album itself debuted at #1 across multiple markets, while singles like “Disease,” “Abracadabra,” and “Die With A Smile” dominated airplay charts and playlists globally, with the latter two already cementing themselves as iconic entries in her catalog.
The era also brought home Grammy wins, further solidifying MAYHEM as one of the defining albums of her career. But beyond the spectacle, this era gave us something more meaningful: Gaga visibly happier and healthier than she’s been in well over a decade.
And then came MAYHEM Requiem. Intimate, cinematic, and completely unapologetic, it was the perfect final chapter to one of the most ambitious artistic cycles in recent pop history. A farewell worthy of everything that came before it.
It was a reminder that the artist her fans and the general public fell in love with never went anywhere. She’s simply ever-evolving, growing stronger with every new chapter she steps into.
Thank you for this wonderful era, @ladygaga. This journey was something else. Until next time. 🤍

Meryl Streep commends Lady Gaga’s contributions to “The Devil Wears Prada 2” in a new interview with BBC Radio 2:
“First of all, she was in the middle of a world tour, and she just flew down and did this for us, but we got to see her perform a song that she wrote for the movie and just to see how a performer of that calibre puts together a performance, just really on the fly. There was not much rehearsal anything, and she did it numerous times in different ways. It was all sort of improvised in the moment, pretty astonishing. What a musician, what an artist, she is.”
